Whats your worst knife?

SOG Flash II, everything about it feels so cheap like it should be a $10 gas station knife. The lockup is so poor with so much blade play that it feels like the blade is just going to fall out of the handle if used to cut anything more dense than air.

This is going to be considered sacrilege, my benchmadee mini grip. It doesn't hold a good edge, it has lots of blade play, the handle feels cheap, i could go on... I had really high hopes when I first got it, they were quickly gone like a fart in the wind.

Yup. How I feel about most of the BM I've bought.

The only "reputable" folder I've been unhappy with is the Gerber Paraframe 2. It wouldn't hold an edge or obtain a good one, the damned thing cut me while closed and my keys would ding the edge. That was a total waste of money and I couldn't in good conscience give it away. It went into the trash.

Cheap Boker Magnum series knive (free). I was fun to flick open until it just finally exploded in my hand.

A couple of the CRKT I bought a while ago....I can't remember the name of the models now. One was designed by Ron Lake.

You can't fix stupid

Work smarter not harder

Had some crapola Chinese knock-off of the USAF survival knife. I think the handle was sharper than the blade.

Beckerhead #42

Not that I've owned a great variety of either one, but enough to put me off them forever. #1 Anything by Maxam, #2 Anything by MTech

Buck 301 stockman. The grinds and fit are so bad that I have to force the blades to close because they rub. Needs to go back to Buck but this is the worst knife I've seen come off a production line.

I've gotten a few junk Chinese 'pocket knives' included as bonuses with other products. Those immediately go into the trash can. No big deal. - - The 'worst' knives that come to mind for me were of good quality but had design flaws IMO. I got a Boker Plus Cop Tool. It has a seat belt cutter and right beside it is a very sharp chisel edge. Not a good idea to have a sharp edge next to a person's body who youre trying to release from a vehicle. Another of my 'worst' knives is a beautiful Great Eastern Cutlery Pioneer slipjoint. The problem with it is that it has extremely strong backsprings, half stops, and thumb nicks. I have been cut several times opening that knife as the blade slams against the half stops. I prefer no half stops. Now, I don't dare open that knife without having leather work gloves on. It wouldnt be so bad if it was ugly junk. But is so well made and has gorgeous stag scales, so its a shame that I don't use it much. I have other nice slip joints with strong backsprings that give you much more to open with - - either lots of blade to grab or Scagel types that have an oblong shaped hole (like an early Spyderco hole).

Anything from SOG, particularly the Vulcan and Twitch

???Why. The SOG Vulcan with San Mai steel is amazing. One of my friends gives it to me to clean and I can barely resist headbutting him and running away with it when I am finished cleaning it

Good idea for a thread! Badly finished knives help you appreciate decent ones all the more.

Pause to go to a drawer.....here it is: A.Wright Lambfoot slipjoint from Sheffield England. Which, unfortunately,l shows what a long fall this has been from the glory days of Sheffield. It is SHOCKINGLY badly made AND it was a replacement knife for another (not quite as bad knife!). Horrible gaps, rough, even sharp pins from the handles, the horn handles have gaps a plenty round the bolster and liners, warping in places. It's hell to open and frightening to close (I know about these things, slipjoints are my metier). The single blade has a bend in the spine so it's as if it's been crinked for multi blade use. Cost about 37 GBP plus shipping, simply the worst slipjoint I own by a massive margin. Looks tolerable at a distance, just don't try using it:D Even some rough crude effort I have from India/Pakistan is superior (and a load cheaper):barf:

Please Sir can I have another? as Oliver Twist might have said. This time a Modern not a Traditional. Böker Magnum Fatty Liner lock. Finish is fine, materials and blade OK but that liner lock is asleep most of the time it's a hazard. Just won't engage convincingly so I have a 1 handed Friction folder (and no fingers if not careful, at least it's sharp:eek:)

The worst knife is the one I don't have. That's because I want it so bad. I figure it'll be done in a year or so. Will be well worth the wait.

I know what you mean ! I recently got a Skookum Bushcraft that I had ordered from the maker. It took 2 1/2 years to get that very popular knife. Well worth it !

First knife my grandfather gave me was a wal mart special Schrade stockman. I wouldnt call the knife a total POS because the little carbon blades took and held a decent edge. However over time from whittling soft woods the liners inside the knife started to separate creating alot of play in the blade. Now it just sits in my drawer as a memory of my first trip to BC.

+1 I`m glad I got rid of it.
