Wheeler Proto Fighter Update Thread

Thick blade, sharpened swedge, smoky hamon - what's not to love!

Great photo, Mr. Cooper!
Mr. Wheeler - most of the good adjectives were used on the "build" thread - so I'm going with wickedly sinister!

I'm tickled to be one of the ten...
My dilemma - 3 choices of micarta or wood

I gotta support Nick: His finish was about perfect. So much so that ANY smudge shows up. I really thought I wiped it, but the damn 21mp camera doesn't miss a beat. That blue shading on the left of the hamon blade is definitely oil I missed, too.

Fear not. Your reputation is is not 'tarnished'. ;) Maybe mine....

Coop

Great photo's Coop. This project looks like it is going to be a success, no surprise there. Really fine looking knife! Roger I will be going with wood but do not think there is a bad choice.

Jon

Roger

I will probably go with wood too...see if you can guess my choice :p

I must admit, though, that Nick did such a great job with the G10 that I am still pondering....

Bill

Bill - no pastel pink giraffe bone? :p I'll likely either go stabilized Koa or Redwood burl. I also asked Nick to check his remaining stash of that cool Oak - but he's not sure he has a piece big enough for the dimensions and contours of this knife. I think African Blackwood would give it that "all business" look that the prototype has, but with the warmth of wood.

Roger

I don't want to try and make up anybody's mind... but I gotta say even as much of a proponent of natural materials as I am... I really dig the G10. But then again, it's hard to ever go wrong with curly Koa. ;) :D

I'd be suggesting ivory Micarta on this one, myself. it will still look good when my great grandson pulls it out of the safe.

I wouldn't be around to 'splain, though. :D

Coop

Roger

....OK, you got me with the giraffe bone thing...I guess I'll have to abandon that plan, before Les chimes in to abuse me......HAHA

NIck,

Can't say I disagree with ya...lets just say I'll give you a couple possibilities to think about:p

I can't argue any the choices and can't wait to see them all come to life.

For me the black G 10 is a no nonsense approach that IMHO looks clean and all business but the real advantage is in
durability

This knife was truly born to be used and like a fine custom handgun say a Wilson Combat or the like to be carried as a
tool you can be proud of and bet your life on.

I am so pleased that u guys find the design to your liking and I can't wait to see the different options come to life

Roger I'm going with African Blackwood. Luckily Joe accommodated my request and Nick had a piece kicking around. :D

Just to give Joe something to kick me for.... :foot: :foot: ;)

I talked to my good friend Chuck Bybee at http://www.alphaknifesupply.com last night, and asked him to send me several more blocks of black G10, but also 2 in Coyote Brown, 2 in Forest Green, and 2 in red.

Thought I'd throw that out here, since I've only been doing blade work so far and haven't started any handles yet... ;)

I'll save Joe some headaches here--- If you'd like one of those other colors, please just pm me and I'll mark it down on the order sheet. :)

Edited to say- Unfortunately I just ran out of pink Giraffe bone!!! :p

Hey Nick - show us what those look like when you get them in, please.

Roger
