When and why would you need a folder bigger than a Rat-2 ?

Completely understood. I sincerely hope you or I never need to do this.

State by state, certain ones have Castle Doctrine laws that protect you from assailants. On the street it is an entirely different matter.

I almost never cut a sandwich in half or whatever. If I order a 12" sub such as from Subway, I ask them to cut it in thirds rather than in half. But if I did routinely cut sandwiches in half, I would likely carry a larger folding knife.
I don't always remember to ask to have my kid's sandwich cut in half. And when I put together a burrito or wrap for a lunch pick nick, it's best to cut those big delicious hunks of food on the spot rather than let the goodness of the innards seep out before lunch.

Just a couple reasons why I prefer a bigger knife.

Knife fight.... a story.... there was a local radio celebrity who had a road rage incident. My guess is he was probably at fault, but the case was eventually dropped in court. In a nut shell, the incident happend and he stopped and grabbed a tomahawk and walked up to the other car. The other person viewed him as the aggressor and wounded him with a handgun. The celebrity spent time in jail. Lost his job. Obviously spent a bunch of money in attorney fees, etc. It was certainly not worth it no matter how much of a Rambo you think you are. Walk, run, avoid the whole deal if possible.... always, even if you have to swallow your pride.
I fully agree with the swallowing or pride rimfire and I don't ever want to be like that guy in the car. you see I have an LTC but I got rid of my guns when my kids were born because kids are experts at finding things. I was a kid once and I Found stuff that was Safely stashed away like the shotgun hidden in the coat closet and the shells hidden at the other end of the house but even at the age of 7 or 8 I knew enough not to touch them for fear of a good old fashioned whooping. I didn't feel safe with kids and guns in My house so I got rid of them and 20 plus years later I still don't own any and have not felt the need to and when I feel the need to get my Shot On I go to my friends range and blast away with his gear, Cheaper and safer IMO and BTW in my neighborhood (swallowing pride) is called (Eating :poop:). I have ingested many turd sandwiches in my life and will continue to do so. Thats My plan but you know what they say about plans.

Road rage is mostly about pride. I have been in situations that I later regret how I reacted. But I have never hurt anyone. Moral of that story... a tomahawk IS a weapon. Don't get out of your car and limit any reaction to words. Blow it off and go on with life.

Yes it is and unfortunately I live in Massachusetts and we are as for from a castle state as can be. IMO perps would think twice about breaking into homes knowing that there's a good chance the owner is armed and that this could be the last day of his miserable existence but instead we hear in Mass are told to do whatever we can to get out of the house even if it includes jumping out a second story window and God forbid he trips on a throw rug or your dog bites him because he will sue the crap out of you. Thank you Maura Healey for protecting us from ourselves but I digress.

I hear you rimfire:thumbsup: When I was a Little younger and was driving home from a friends house I had a car speed up behind me and ride my bumper with his high beams on so I gave him a little break check to which he sped around me and pulled over. When he stepped out of the car I noticed that he couldn't have weighed more that a 100 pounds soaking wet as I stepped out to have a umm err have a friendly discussion about his driving habits when I saw him pull his plether jacket to the side, I'm no dummy and it was not the first time I had a gun pulled on me and I wasn't about to make that the Last time so I yelled to him (sorry) and jumped back in my truck and drove home the long way just incase he was thinking of following me home. I never should have got out of the car that night to begin with and after that I never will again. Road rage has to be the purist form of stupidity IMO. Sometimes people really need to get somewhere in a Hurry like the time my wife called me at work tell me that my house was on fire so I drove home 3 miles in in a little over a minute flashing my high beams so people would pull over. Good news is that I put the fire out way before the Fire dept arrived. Bottom line, sometimes people for whatever reason have to get someplace in a hurry so just let them go past you! It's just that simple:thumbsup:

From your description Massachusetts sounds a lot like Great Britain today.
Yes I have heard from my friend who frequents a shooters board that the UK is clamping down and restictricing knives to the point that exectible knives can no longer be Pointed. Is that true! I was going to bring it up but I did not read it myself and I don't want to quote hearsay.

I dunno, except for what I've read too. I've hunted, stalked, and shot birds variously in the UK, Scotland and Ireland. The firearms restrictions are onerous, to say the least. The last time I went to Ireland for woodcock I opted not take a shotgun as my host knew me by then and offered a loaner. He had an attic filled with a dozen long guns. Said they he refused to register them. We all chuckled.

As an aside, on a Red Stag stalk in Scotland the gamekeepers said they preferred hunters didn't bring anything bigger than a .243 Win. I had a Mannlicher carbine in .30-06 with me on that trip. Like a .243 won't travel as far as a .30! But they believed it.

Back to knives ... They're all living in La-La Land.

We had a big scare here a few years ago during the Obama administration and every one was afraid that they were going to come and take their AK's away so needles to say people started hoarding assault rifles and ammo Lol. That was a great time for the Gun industry. There was no 9 mill bullets to be found anywhere and assault rifles were selling for way more than they were worth. My buddy who was/is a prepper made Thousands of dollars by selling his low end assault rifles and trading bullets for guns. In the end it was just a scare or maybe not but no one ever came for their guns.

I know it well. Obama had many agencies horde ammo like it was going out of style. I never knew the SSA had an armed police force.

No, to put it in the English way, that is a load of bollocks. Completely false. ;)

I disagree.
I learned plenty having served six years in the U.S. Army.
And here's what I was taught about hand-to-hand combat:
Don't do hand-to-hand combat!
You use a weapon whenever possible...be it a rifle, a pistol, a blade, a stick, a rock...whatever you have available.
The last thing you want is a "fair fight".
Busting knuckles with some attacker on the street is stupid and dangerous.
There's nothing cowardly about using a knife for self defense.
It's not a boxing match or a game, it's literally a life or death situation.

Well said Allen.

Thanks Pilsner, That kind of new would have surely been brought up on this board and at least a small blurb in ower news papers even as filtered as they are.

I like the 3.25" to 3 .75" blade knife. I carry in my coin pocket so the folder can't be too big.
i would never use a folder as a defensive weapon. Only a butterfly knife or fixed blade.
