**When are the D2 Sifus with finger gooves coming out???

I've just received the Sifu D2 Enhanced from Roger.(Knifeworks.com)

Santi, I'm glad to hear you received your D2 Sifu. How about posting your comments/impressions on this eagerly awaited sweetheart? Was it worth the wait?

How much longer do the rest of us have to wait? The last post on the status of the BF SE D2 Sifu said that they were being scheduled for the Birdsong black coating treatment--fine, but how does that affect those of us who ordered a stonewash version?

The one that I got is a stonewash.
Too bad I haven't had much time to "handle" it, I order it for my friend, but generally it's exactly the same as the AST34 version.
And, I'm sure it's worth waiting!

I'm just curious as to how KNIFEWORKS managed to get an order in so quickly.

Is it a pre-production model, Santi? What does it say on the blade ?

Why hasn't "1STOP" announced its arrival yet? In addition, I hope there is an update on both the finger grooved, and grooveless models, posted at this manufacturer's forum soon.

We will carry both models but right now we must concentrate on the fingerless version as we have alot of inventory tied up with them.

Hope fully we will have both models in stock within 10 days.

Darn! I'm #3091, but in stonewash.

Wow! Possibly 10 days away. I won't hold 1STOP to that as it's 10 REKAT days which is when converted in dog years...

But it's like a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm getting all giddy!...

I'm new to knives, but have handled the original Sifu with the finger grooves. To groove, or not to groove is the question. It seems that with a good positive grip, it shouldn't make much of a difference. What's the scoop on the grip style? Small pun...for those of you from Ocean Beach.

Dog years is gotta be the best I've heard! But it could be worse...we could be asking for a custom from Emerson!

....that's fer sure! btw, i'm ordering the all black Pocket Hobbit from brian @ discountknives in about 1.5 weeks or so. i've been saving for about a year ta get one o' those. back ta youse guys!

Sorry for the delays. The D-2 in production numbers caused many unexpected problems. This required a learning curve and that caused time. Currently the finishing touches on the new line with Shot Show coming have added the influx of work. The three New Savants, The Carnivore light, The Carnivore Cub Light, The Ontos, The Pigmy Warrior, and The Pikuni did over fill our plates.
The next production will be the Blade Forums Sifu’s with the Black T finishes first. To help make up for the unexpected delays we are going to serial number them in both models 1-75 in Stone washed and 1-75 in Black T with factory Letters of authenticity at no charge.

Christina, I'm confused. Up above, 1SKS states that they've got a lot of inventory tied up in the Blade Forums "fingerless" model, yet you say that you won't start production on them until this new line is finished. Is this correct?

Hank

The announcement on 9/2/00 was that they would be done in about 60 days or so. Things got backed up- okay, no problem. On 10/30 there's a post that says within 30 days or so. Then there's a post that says the D2 ws more difficult to grind, and that slowed things down. But the finger grooved versions have already shipped (I've actually seen one at my local knife outlet) so in reality it's the handles that are holding up the works. Huh? How much effort is involved in grinding the finger grooves off the existing handles? And other projects are consuming time at the factory (which are causing delays we are not told about, and leaves customers with outstanding orders hanging while other projects go into development.) Ok, no problem. Then there's a post that says hopefully we'll have them in about 10 days. Now there's a post that says they haven't even been produced yet.

Enough.

When I get a chance to call long distance in the next couple of days I'll be cancelling my order.

Greetings All,
Just joined BladeForums and I've been lurking a bit and reading old threads. Even ordered the Sifu based on the posted comments, having never even handled one before. I can't comment directly from personal knowledge of REKAT and their business practices but I do know that many small "entrepenurial" type businesses have great ideas and lofty goals. But they do have difficulties with certain aspects of business as they grow/mature. Over-expansion, over-commitment, and unclear communications may be culprits here, I dunno for sure. But I do know the Sifu has a vocal and devoted following so I will "stand-by to stand-by". Hell, I've been married 16 years, I know well the meaning of delayed gratification

Welcome aboard Rawhide! You will not regret the wait, I am sure. I purchased one of the Red G-10/Black Blade Sifu's when they came out. A truly superior knife! I put my name on the list for this Sifu SE as soon as they said they would be made. I too am a little expectant. But what the heck. We all have pant loads of knives. I can wait for this sweet new beauty to come to me. It would seem senseless for me to give up just before completion. That which is worth having, is worth waiting for. Take Care All!!

Is it okay with the wife that she's being compared to a "fighting folder"?

You've probably not been here that long to realize that much of the frustration comes from those who secured an order back in September (late August?).

It's not so much of the delays themselves. Rather, it is a lack of explanation or official response from REKAT, or 1STOPKNIFESHOP as to WHY we are still waiting. We feel like we're being left HIGH AND DRY. It's the "not knowing" part.

You are absolutely correct however in that the world isn't perfect; especially in small business. I commented at another thread that it's tough when you rely a lot on subcontractors for parts, materials, and sub-assembly. Some of us need to show some patience in that respect.

NOTE: REKAT, and 1STOP have started to post explanations at this forum as of late.

I think the dealer should at least contact the people who have pre-ordered (first ordered/first contacted)and confirm whether or not their original order (first choice) will be fulfilled.

If the customer won't be getting the option originally requested, the customer should be allowed to select a second choice based on what is still available or cancel the order.

Will I be disappointed to learn that I won't be getting a SE BF D2 Sifu? Yes, but at least once I know that fact I can get in line for other limited run knives--like the CF Civilian.

OOPS!! Better get them kevlar undies on in case she starts reading over my shoulder!

Yes, even the most patient might become frustrated after standing-by for so long. Maybe these discussions will encourage a more definitive statement from REKAT and 1Stop.

In anticipation...
Clyde
