When did BladeHQ turn into Saks Fifth Avenue?

So I perused the "new arrivals" section of all my favorite knife sites every day to look for a new fix.

Today, I check our BladeHQ's "new arrivals" and every knife is between $250 and $2300!!!

When did BladeHQ turn into Saks Fifth Avenue?

They even offer financing (payment plans) now!

To be fair, there are a couple of $100 knives on page 2 between the $1000 custom and the $945 flipper.

Guess I need to stick to the "SALE" section for the common folk...

:grumpy:

What do you mean you cant afford a 2300 custom folder?? :D

I've always had great service from the guys in store. Living about 20 minutes away, I get to actually hold and fondle the knives before making a purchase. 2 weeks ago I spent over an hour in there looking at a few cheaper knives (less than $100). I was looking for a larger flipper that fires like a cannon. Being the only one in the store, the guy behind the counter was super helpful and had no problem bringing out numerous examples for me to check out. And none of the "one at a time bull$-t that many places pull. Ended up with a Boker Field Marshal; a knife that i knew nothing about beforehand and haven't heard much about. Had my heart set on a CRKT Eraser or Kershaw JYD. Thanks to the recommendation, i ended up with a knife that flips MUCH better than the other two (even if its heavier than a brick.)

Anyone who has worked in a specialty retail environment can tell you that lower end, high volume items usually have much better profit margins than higher end specialty items. Retailers are able to purchase in volume and receive volume discounts. Go into any flyshop and its tippet, flies, and sinkers that make the money; not $700 fly rods.

Bingo! This high end stuff is from the show. Most of the time there is good mix in the new arrivals. But really it all boils down to availability.

Yeah, we are totally guilty of this sometimes. But I agree with you! Alot of times it's important to preserve out of stock items for search engine optimization and, as you mentioned, reference reasons. But they really do clutter up search pages. We'll figure something out.

Always :)

Thanks guys!

Would it be possible to refine the searches, as in after you've searched, you could select "Show only items that are in stock"?

When you search on knifecenter, there's a bar on the left side of the screen titled "More Options", and it lets you toggle stuff like "In Stock" (It also shows the number of items that are in stock for whatever you searched for.).

But if you do that, as opposed to browse the individual items, then you'll only be looking at items that are in stock -- and, for example, might miss out on stuff that would be restocked in a day or two or soon, which could be handy. I wouldn't know if it's even possible to implement an "In stock + in stock in a day" system for such a huge amount of stuff, as it would be dependent on the shipping information. If you have your own system that keeps track of the stuff you've ordered (For example, a database that you put the tracking number of the package you just ordered into, then interprets info from the tracking site, and shows the ETA next to the tracking numbers.), you could tie that into the search engine results, and make it display the items with an ETA of a day.

Or you could put up the tracking number of the items you've ordered on the pages of the relevant items. If it's not wise to put up the actual tracking number, you could possibly make up a proxy tracking browser (Ie, make up your own tracking engine that reads and displays the info from the actual tracking number and displays it in your own tracking engine when queried by a proxy tracking number.). No idea how to do that, or even if it's feasible, though

BladeHQ is by far my favortie online and retail knife store. I usually stop by when I'm in Salt Lake for work. They guys behind the counter are always willing to show you anything and usually have even more suggestions for you to look at. Great store.
