When did you decide to join the family?

My first CRK was a one piece knife (Mtnr 1) I bought that knife not really knowing who CRK were. The knife looked good
to me and the guy in the shop had good things to say about the knives and CRK. It just went from there and it didn't take
long for me to add to that with more one pice knives, the GB, Pacific when that came out and sebenzas a hoy :p.

It's amazing how many people find this knife to be perfect. If only I could decide which size!!!

dimensionally, they don't appear much different.

however, the large is a lot more knife. ive owned a couple smalls, and just find them to be tiny.

the large is more of a medium folder to me, and carries very well.

and both have about the best blade to handle ratio you will find in a folder.

I believe that my first was an Aviator, that is since long gone. I wanted a great knife, and one that was high quality. Members on Jerzee Devil and BF recommended the Sebenza to me. I have huge paws, MR. ;) La Bella recommended I get the large. I got the small micarta, it is a great dress carry knife, but the large micarta is my real user. My first folder was my small micarta, followed by a large micarta, then a cocobolo, then another small micarta after I traded the first small micarta, then a small classic and small regular, then a GB 5.5 that I traded the small classic for, then a large BG42 regular. I finally traded that large BG42 for a small wood inlay 21. The Aviator and GB 5.5 are long gone too.

I more or less graduated to Sebenzas from Benchmade Axis-Locking folders at the suggestion of a friend about 8 years ago (I'm still a big Bali-Song and BM fixed-blade fan, please don't get me wrong :))

I wanted something with less moving parts that could be easily disassembled and re-assembled, and that had as few contact points for wear as possible.

I wanted something customizable, where I could have a fancy/dress version and a working version of the same folder; hence my stainless damascus LE Annual small regular with snakewood inlays and my small regular, both with double thumblugs.

I wanted something that would be the first and only production folding knife that out of the box, I did not have to tweak or adjust in regard to quality control issues or imperfections otherwise.

I wanted something that rivaled some of the best custom framelock-makers' knives, and in some ways I surpassed some of them with the Sebenza.

No regrets here, and no looking back.

CRK's wonderful customer service and the great individuals I've met both here and at Blade Shows who are also fans of the Sebenza are just added bonuses to me having found the perfect folding pocket knife.

Now if I could only find that perfect fixed-blade. ;)

Professor.

I always wanted to join the family since 2006 when I discovered Bladeforums and this Sub-Forum....but could not afford to join until February this year! My seb was born in April 2006 and waited for me till this year on the shelf. So that was quite cool. It was made for me when I was about to discover CR. Haha. Or that is how it is in my mind! I have a small Regular. Great EDC.

How about a CRK one piece!?:D Get em' before they are gone.

I do love the one-piece range, but have always found them a little too heavy and the rounded handles a little uncomfortable for extended carry and use.

The Pacific turns my head; I wonder if I could order one without those serrations? :)

Honestly, I would turn to nyfemaker for that question... his knowledge of CRK's is a constant reference for me lol... I am actually clueless at the moment about anything having to do with fixed blades haha

I first ordered a large LE wood inlay Sebenza back in 2001, but was unable to follow through on it based on cash flow problems (still young and barely out of school). My tastes have changed a bit over the years, and now I prefer the plain Sebbies. I got a large Regular last year when I found out that CRK was discontinuing the regular line (I got it just in time too, as I ordered it on the last day they were still being offered).

I guess you can say that I've been a Sebenza convert since 2001, but I only became a true believer in 2008.

Seanuhthin,

Your hand size will determine which one you would want to get. I am 6'1 with fairly big hands so a large fits me best. However, the small is big enough to handle almost every task needed.

I got into knives around 16 years old as a hobby on my own, in lieu of being able to purchase a firearm. But it wasn't till I was 19 that I stumbled on CRK, after having tumbled through SOG, Benchmade, and various others but never finding the one be-all end-all knife that I knew would keep working for me no matter what. I went through gimmicks and different lock types, but then one day I heard a rumour about a knife company that was the benchmark standard for all other knife companies. After saving some cash and asking around, especially to Heather of the CRK staff who was incredibly helpful, I ordered my first Sebbie, a Large with double silver thumblugs and matching silver backspacer. I haven't carried another knife since except for when I travel out of the country and don't want to risk losing it, but even then, I look forward to coming home and putting my sebbie back in my pocket.

@ BlazenGem: I know but I'm kind of young and if I do grow bigger, (science points to yes) than the large should be perfect.

I first got wind of Chris Reeve in the early to mid 80's - when I was in South Africa. I recall reading a South African magazine article about these somewhat unusual one piece knives. I served in the South African airborne (parabats) in the mid 80's and a few folks that I served with had read the same article I had - we just did not have the funds to buy one (at that time SAR350 iirc)....pity.
My first was a Project I ....bought it here in the US about 10 years ago.

Was into Spyderco first and then Benchmades and at first didn't think very highly of the Sebenza. Seemed plain, under-whelming, and spendy for what you got. Eventually I came to realize that I needed to be educated to have a valid opinion and ordered a GB and a small regular double lug from TNK. Neil offered to take it back no questions asked in a week if I didn't like it.

That small Seb is one of my favorite blades and have since bought a large Trapeze and 2 one piece knives. Likely will add more in the future and never sell the ones I have.

Picked up a fixed blade (Mark 4 with 7" blade) while in the service in 1994. Got into sebenzas in 1998.

I had seen a pic of a large one-piece knife in a knife magazine when I was a teen. At that time, I had to save up for weeks just to get a $30 buck knife........lol. When I finally got a better job many years later, I came across the one-piece knives that I had seen so long ago. I looked them over and decided I wanted to try one. I decided on the shadow III. At the time, about 6-7 years ago, they were about $175. Thats a ton for a knife I thought, but the thought of having a high quality hollow handle survival knife was so tempting. I bought the shadow III and absolutely fell in love with it. My next was a tanto I. Now I have 17 of them, so you can say I have a CRK One-Piece Addiction. I collected all those One-Piece before I tried a sebenza.

This past christmas, I came across a large regular BG-42 sebenza on ebay for $280, so I thought now was a good time to try one. Since then, I have had several sebenzas, large and small. I liked it to much, I got another large regular and sent it to CRK for custom engraving and I edc it.

Then, this spring I got bit by the mnandi bug. Since I like the sebbie so much, I decided to try the mnandi. Now I have 4 of them...........lol.

Chris Reeve Knives are addicting. I never started out collecting them, and I really dont consider myself a CRK collector, I just buy the ones I like, which turns out to be many. Yes, they are expensive, but they are made with the Highest Quailty Materials and that never comes cheap. After selling almost all my other knives and almost exclusively using CRK knives the past 6-7 years, I find them to be worth every penny.

I am already saving for the Umnumzaan !!!

I heard a lot of great things on the forums. After trying out a lot of spydies and bm I finally ordered a small regular. I was very pleased with my purchase and have since gotten a small micarta 21, and a snakewood mnandi also. Like others have said I love the design and customer service. The bushing is awesome. Since getting the sebbies my standards have raised and I only buy CRKs or customs.

I am the same in that I only buy customs or CRK's.
