When did you get bitten by Spyderco? aka become a Spydienut

My first 'bite' was one of the original Police models, with the full spyderedge(r). I think I bought it sometime back in the '80s. Some of my other early Spydercos were the Co-Pilot (back when you could still take small folders onto commercial airliners), and an original Delica(?) with the molded in pocket clip.

Unfortunately all three of these were lost or misappropriated over the years, but have been replaced by many more Spydercos. :)

I fell in love with the Gayle Bradley and was interested in M4. I bought a GB and BM 760 at the same time. I was so impressed with the GB that I bought my girlfriend at the time a pink Native 4. I have been hooked since.

My first spydie was a Tenacious. Got the spyder bite after how amazing that knife was for the money. Then the gf got me a para 2 for christmas 2011 and the rest is history... :)

I <3 Spyderco

I used to carry a SAK Farmer/Pioneer for years, and eventually got frustrated by the poor edge retention.

In my quest for better steel, I stumbled upon the grey Para 2 20CP, which was where my search ended.

That was a year ago, now I have 11... :)

I bought my first spydie about 1978-79 from a booth at the fishing show in denver. They would have a show every January. A guy was selling these "ugly" knives that would cut like crazy, and he had a sharpening system that I had never seen before. It was expensive to me at that time but I wanted a good knife for fishing etc.
It was Sal doing the selling and now I got have a least a 100 Spydies in my collection.

Mine would have been a first gen Endura that I have since lost and a first gen Delica which I still have. I purchased both at a gun show in '92 or '93.

Started being a fan when our escrima class started using the endura trainers. So i guess the endura trainer started it.

1990. My karate teacher had a one-handed opening, all stainless lockback knife that he could pop open and use in a technique in the blink of an eye. It could be incorporated into just about any empty handed technique we had, it was slim and could hide just about anywhere.

I wanted one. He told me it was a Spyderco Delica, and let me play with it. I couldn't afford it.

Thus, I went through a number of years of cheaper one-handed knives, some good, some bad, but none were that Delica.

My first Spyderco, I found a Clipit Rescue (spyderedge) while cleaning out a barracks, and still have it, but have no real use for it. Got a Native at Walmart when people were talking about how awesome they were, and really liked it, but so did my wife. So, it's riding around in her purse. Got a Tenacious last year, and loved it. But it walked away, and it made me sad. I miss it. I'm taking reciept of two Delicas this week - an FRN Emerson, and, finally, the knife I've wanted since I was 18 - a stainless handled Delica. I can't wait!

ETA: Aaaand the Emerson patent opener arrived today!! :D And I've been playing with it ever since. Sliced up the box it came in, opened the wife's packages, etc. Taught my 15yo daughter the Spyder drop. :D

After 22 years, I have finally gotten the Spyderco I first fell in love with - the all-stainless Delica. It arrived today in the mail.

What a neat, nice knife! Smooth in the hand, smooth opening and closing, nice heft ... totally love it. The Emerson opener FRN handled one I got is nice, but this is a whole 'nother level. My wife really likes it, and says the other one is both ugly and funny looking. LOL.

I've never loved hollow ground knives. Other than that caveat, I think I may have just found permanent love in a lockback. :D

Some other knut around here posted pics of a Para2 with blue handle and black blade, and I instantly fell in love. I had to have one.

But then I saw the prices, and decided building a Tenacious version would be cheaper. Been in love ever since :)

i got my buddy goin on spyderco with the blue tenacious too, then i talked him into getting the all black tenacious so we could do the blue/black swap but before he ordered it i convinced him to just step up to the all black dlc para 2. That was a tough sale for me because spending $100 on a knife was crazy to him and he didn't think there was any real difference between the two. Then when he got the pm2 he was like "why didn't i get this sooner!" which is the same thing I said when I got my first para2. :)

Has to be original Manix and Chinook. They were my very first Spyderco knives and fall in love ever since.
Chinook was partially serrated. The first day I received it, I was curious about how sharp Spyderco's serration is and why there is such hype about it.
Touch twice on serration lightly with my thumb, got my first bite :P

I started off wanting a traditional Japanese knife. After researching it a bit (who buys something anymore without a little online researching ;) ) I came across Spyderco and these forums. I bought a Dfly, found the blade a little too small, and returned it and picked up a Chaparral. Could not be happier. Probably my only Spydie ill own for a little while, but its all I need... so far
