When do you expect to stop buying knives? Why?

when will you stop buying knives/adding to your collection and why?
I am largely there. I stopped buying pocket knives a couple of years ago, though I made an exception for this year's traditional forum knife. The "why" is that I have way more than I need, and lots that I have bought that I have not had a chance to enjoy.

I had shifted to kitchen knives a couple of years ago but I have that covered as well. I bought the last kitchen knife on my longer term want list a few months ago, so I think I am done there too. At least those I use daily, unlike pocket knives which are used infrequently.

So - needs met, wants met, have no interest in throwing more money at it.

Yep, same here brother. Also with more expensive tastes now it has slowed more.

Ah yes, that too. Sounds like a first world problem but I have issues finding something under $500 that really stands out from what I already got. Aaaaand... that's a bunch of pocket change :)

I have 5 knives that I am totally happy with. If I had to stop tomorrow, it would be no problem. With fixing up our house on hand right now, and wanting to get back into my other passion of flying single engine aircraft, I'm cutting back a bit unless it's not huge money and I really like it.

When I've successfully chopped off all of my fingers. Still got all ten, so I will continue to pursue my interest in the hobby full speed. It is more a general appreciation for quality manufacturing that drives me- seeing what is new and what has been developed!

I suppose, when I can no longer get a good knife for under 145 US dollars ($200 in my local currency). At the moment, that is the absolute maximum I would spend on a knife. Keyword: At the moment.

As time has gone on, I've narrowed down what knives and makers I'm interested in. At this point, I've mostly stepped away from buying knives outside of those guys, and I'm sure this 'culling' will continue till I'm left with little to nothing I'm really interested in, and I either stop buying or it's limited to 2-3 pieces a year. And as much as I hate to think about it, my previous hobbies which I thought I'd never give up at the time have gone the way of the dodo, so maybe I'll be selling off my collection entirely and moving on to something new in a couple of years.

Until then, I'm hooked.

I stop when everything new bores me. Something sexy turns up, I start again.

I would rather just enjoy using what I have, than buying for the sake of buying.

This, pretty much exactly. I go through cycles where I don't buy a single knife for years, then I see something that ignites that spark and I buy a couple.

I'm mainly down to using and enjoying what I have, as I have every base covered and more than I could use in 4 lifetimes. (And I don't own a whole lot of knives anymore. They're more durable than one would think.)

I've slowed down, and I expect that trend to continue. There may come a time when I buy one knife, every five years. But I'll never stop.

The way I see it, if you are not looking what's out there knifewise, then you are in the decline in terms of knives. Nothing wrong with that if that is what you want. There are ups and downs in every hobby.

I was seriously going to cut way back this year in the buying, but a lot of the new stuff interested me...

True for me as well, but not stopped. Surfacially I had little interest in a Buck Slippie and certainly don't need another. But other than a 110, I don't own any Bucks. So, I signed up for this years traditional forum knife as well. I enjoy just having them and really don't have to use them. I'm at peace.

I think my problem is that I have an ever growing and evolving wishlist. I guess I’ll stop whenever that runs out but it’s not likely:confused:

I missed this years forum knife what is it and can it still be had?

I have never warmed to the last several decades of top 40 BS knives and guns, flavor of month steel or ammo...

But, still manage to find a few which offer something unique in quality of build and in true functionality...

Never bought scads to begin with, though...no die hard fan of any brand, but buy what I simply consider a superior and useful knife, whereupon I buy several or quite a few of that one knife, for gifting to others not so fortunate.

No immediate plans to stop as I have always been very curious, but, no immediate plans to shop for latest xyz, either. Whatever else I might buy might be what I consider a steal at $500, or might be something for well under $80 but which I consider as good as anything else out there, and possibly better.

But no collection of slots to fill, no brand to buy one of everything they make, no drive to go buy Buy BUY....

I have definitely slowed down since #200. I think I have (almost) every "tool" I want, and then a limited edition comes out, or something I have been wanting for a long time, finally goes on sale. Spyderco's awesome military discount is not helpful either. I have made myself stick with 'value'/production knives, so I have not hurt myself financially. But.....I have not bought a new vehicle since 2006. I also don't eat out unless I have a restaurant gift card. I wonder why?;)

Zero plans to ever stop buying knives. Slowed down for sure, but I always have 5-10 possible purchases on the back burner.

I currently have 15-20 folders, not a lot in comparison to some members here, but I didn't even realize I had misplaced one for nearly a month. It kind of made me think about the size of my collection. How many do I really need?

I came to the conclusion I need at least 10 more.

I don't really see it happening unless forced by finances. I do slow down for a couple months or years occasionally, but I've been collecting knives for 25 years...not likely to give it up at this point. But with 5-6 dozen folders and half as many fixed blades I do try to rotate out things as they get too dusty ;).

Stop buying, or stop growing the collection? I might never stop buying, but I find my high-quality EDC collection hovers around 6 pieces, which fit nicely in a display case. I like new EDC's, but I find that very few capture my heart long-term, and the rest get traded or sold. Of course, this all ignores the safe queens... :D
