when do you start getting pissed off

All I am saying is based on how you are acting right now, you come off looking like a jackass. You show nobody any respect and you are a hot head. If I were a custom knife maker, I would hope and pray that I didn't get customers like you.

It may be true that the maker is also a jackass, I don't know. What I do know is, in a game of losers, there are no winners.

Hey "Rosconey" I feel your pain. Liars and rip offs tend to raise my blood pressure too  I do have one last ditch suggestion though. Have you tried sending the guy a Certified letter through the US Post Office. And send it "Return Receipt Requested". The Postal clerk will know exactly what you mean.

By doing that you could stack up some serious charges against this guy if he doesn't respond soon. Mail Fraud is a Federal OFFENSE and it is not an easy charge to get out of if you have the evidence. Try the certified letter and please keep us posted. That would be the last ditch attempt I would try before I would pursue it in the legal system. But deliberately ignoring you is just inexcusable. And if he doesn't at least attempt to rectify this matter I do indeed want to know who this is. Good Luck SIR :)

Here is the deal with a certified letter, myself being a postal worker, it does work if that person signs for the letter. A certified letter has 10 days to be signed for or it goes back to the sender unsigned. If a person in the military such as myself is in an exercise or even in the field they may not be able to get to that letter to sign for it. If this person is in the military and not living up to his servicemembers values then shame on him because we are trying to role model citizens as well. You can try but the receiver is not obligated to sign for that letter. I hope this helps

Anytime you start to deal with a guy who has a real job (like in the army) where he might be too busy, then you got to factor in this .

There are a lot of reason why I might have told someone "I already sent it" only to find out later it's still sitting under a pile of things I fully intended to ship, but didnt.

Most of the time the best thing to do is to treat people with the same grace we hope to receive from our own Maker one day.
The best advice is to cut people enough slack to make a few mistakes in their lives without the whole world falling down on them for it.

However, the tongue is a wild animal sometimes, and can be used to make a silly situation into a real nasty problem, just by allowing our feelings to rule our actions.

i paid 400-not 300

and if it was shipped when i was told-or got a email or return phone call when it wasnt there wouldnt have been a issue, i stated as much in the first post-plain and simple

last night was the first return call and yesterday was the first email and pm-just to set the record straight-

and as stated i had zero problem with him till this-he makes one hell of a nice looking knife-

i just expect people to be as good about comunication as i am-

rosconey2 said, "he makes one hell of a nice looking knife-"

And he's a flashy dresser too. I don't think I would wear that outfit while grinding steel or heat treating!

From what I have seen, it looks like you owe Daniel Prentice a big apology.

for what?

getting ignored-he got sick last week -the knife was supposed to ship the week before-

he was online at bf-yet wouldnt contact me-

so tell me again what i should say a apology for

THIS IS ALL I WILL SAY ON THE SUBJECT-NO MORE

Still no knife. I waited just to make sure, sometimes the mail can be slow.

Last Monday, 3/19, was the third time I was told my knife would be shipped out. I just left a message asking him to either give me a reliable delivery date, or just tell me you're too busy and refund my money. Just be honest about it.

I wish Mr. Prentice a speedy recovery from bronchitis, and I understand he's working a lot of hours, but you have to communicate with your customers. At this point, I want the knife or a refund. If you're so busy you can't keep up, then God Bless you, but tell your customers before they send you a check.

Selling knives through various forums is a double edged sword. On one side it gets you exposure and sales, on the other side any mistake can lead to flame wars and the loss of your reputation. I have seen more than one up and coming maker quit in disgust because of the trashing he got on a forum. There never was any question about the quality or value of his blades, only his “communication” skills. A word of caution to potential knife makers thinking of enhancing your presence on these forums, the less said the better! Oh, and always tell the truth, even if it makes you look foolish.

1. Never tell a customer an item has shipped if it hasn't.

2. If an item does not ship on the date you said it would, ASAP contact them, explain why not and APOLOGIZE for the extra delay.

3. NEVER let a buyer "swing in the wind" wondering where the item is if there is a delay.

Makers should get an e-mail AND phone numebr for every order, if something happens where you cannot personally make the contact with the customer, make sure someone else does.

It's been my experience that most knife buyers are decent patient folks, but when communications from a maker, especially if they already have your money, break down suddenly, folks get nervous, rightly so, and a makers rep' can take a beating at lightspeed online.

the apology is the "it's shipped" persons responsability, period. nice work
does not excuse the slippery slope of half-truth and non-communication. what's next
my dog ate the blade? rosco was reasonable and blameless.
your position was stated clearly and recieved as "pearls before swine". did the phone message machine crash also? just my opinion.
i'm happy to know who runs their business with so little integrity and who would defend that type of poor business acumen. thanks for the heads up.

Please understand it is NOT my intention to trash anyone's reputation!

I"m a small time collector compared to most or many here on the Forums.

I saw this man's work, it looks good, I"m anticipating this knife with great excitement.

All I'm saying is, if life gets busy and in the way, just communicate, that's all.

But don't promise, then fall through, then promise, then fall through, etc.

That's not good for ANY business.

We, the consumers, also take a risk when purchasing from an independent knifemaker. There is no Kershaw customer service, or Spyderco 1-800 line, to rely one. Maybe the guy is great, maybe he disappears. Alan Blade, anyone?
SO.. while I"m all for being patient with custom craftsmen, I would like to be notified of what's up rather than me having to respond to every delay or broken promise.

Is that unreasonable?
