When was the last time that you NEEDED one hand opening?

Pretty much every day. I often find myself holding something with my left hand and cutting with the right. I mean, I could put it down, open the knife and pick it up again, but why not just open one handed?

I always prefer knives that I can open one handed and close one handed. However, I have never actually needed to use that feature. Just out of curiosity, have you ever needed one hand opening/closing?

Technically since I use a cane to walk, unless I'm sitting I need it all the time.

Having said that, some of my favorites, even though I know they're somewhat harder for me to use, are ones that require two hands, and the past month or so the only ones I've EDC'ed are two-hand openers I've taken a liking to.

Really? People are always talking, "In a SD situation." That's my point. Unless you actually whipped out your knife and sliced some guy's guts, you didn't NEED it for a SD situation.

Hey bud. ( chive buddy)
My wife has a stalker every once in a while. Im in the boonies more or less ( a rural area). But alot of guys are creepy. She often needs to shop or do errands without me. Last week, some guy kept following her from aisle to aisle. Approaching her in an odd fashion to say the least, with two babies. She has both pepper spray and a knife that I supply her. She will open it one handed in a SD situation. She is smart enough and fast enough to use it.
The point is , she has an assisted opening flipper, which I am replacing with a Light weight Manix. Id rather her have that with pepper spray than a buck 110, or slip joint. She does not need to remove "guts" to require an easy opening knife. Its not that we need it, but I sure like to know it is there with easy access.

I need, I need, I need! Ok...I need a one-handed close all the time since that's the easiest way to close most of my folders. Not much of a difference to me between need and want.

Everytime I have to transfer 1,000 full size live crickets fro. The box that it shipped in, into the container bin that I store them in prior to feeding them.to my pet reptiles. I cut open the top of the box and literally dump them and the packaging material into a giant bin.

Are you slightly flattered that she gets different stalkers on a regular basis? ;)

I just cracked up laughing.
Yes I am in general, and most stalkers are harmless creepy guys at price chopper or Wally world.
I just like to know that she can pack more than a punch if it is every needed.
She has pepper spray, a big sharp knife, 4X4 SUV with Destination AT tires and two daughters with attitude. I like to know she is OK when I am not around.

I think any one of those things on their own should deal with any stalkers on hand (they aren't usually very stand their ground types I guess) but all that in combination I think she's basically her own Batcave in comparison. It's good you've outfitted her, hope that helps you not stress when you have to be gone.

Yup , it helps keep my already high 26 year old blood pressure under the radar.
She is already tougher than me to begin with. So it helps if im an hour away during the day.:D
At 115 lbs she is one tough little package. She would laugh at me talking about this right now, but whatever. It is my quiet time now, two burgers a BLT and a beer.:o

I use my folders one-handed all of the time. The last time, I was on a ladder Saturday morning installing gutter guard and I was holding on to the roof with one hand and needed to pry up the edge of a shingle with the other. I could have let go but I'm too big to be playing around on the top of a ladder. I constantly use my knives one-handed.

Exactly my point of view installing ice and water a few weeks ago.
I only ended up on my back once! Luckily it is a 9ft tall barn.

I was in the woods the other day when out of nowhere a Sasquatch jumped out of nowhere! He grabbed my left arms and was going in for the kill (Sasquatch love human flesh). Luckily, I had my one hand opening knife on me, which I of course immediately whipped out. I didn't have to cut the beast, it was intimidated enough by the loud "thwack" of my blade locking open that it made a fast retreat. I finished my woods walk knowing that I was unquestioningly the king of the forest.

Yesterday at work. We ran an accident with entrapment and I used my Spyderco Assist to cut the seatbelts and tether straps that were holding a car seat in so we could extricate a pediatric passenger. One hand opening is a must on rescue knives. I didn't have the room in the car to two hand open the knife if I wanted too.
