When was the last time you were pleasantly surprised?

manix.jpg Another Manix surprise over here. I'm happy I put off buying one tho, because I got in on the CF cruwear version.

This picture was taken at the halfway point of a challenging 12km hike in Ontario Canada.

When the cops told me they had my wife in custody...

The Manix 2 LW for me. A friend gave me one for Christmas. Carry it everyday at work. Size in pocket is a minor inconvenience when compared to the incredible ergonomics, minimal weight, great lock and superb blade design.
Eric's masterpiece in my opinion.

You need to get a LW Manix 2 in Maxamet.

Honestly I was very surprised by my Cold Steel Ti-lite 6! I was having a bad week, I was talking to my uncle about what was going on. He gave me a 50$ Amazon gift card. He said "I know a new toy (un-spoken but that means knife) will cheer you up." After a few days of thought of what I wanted... I chose the CS ti-lite 6 in zytel. Because it's a knife I'd never spend my own money on. Also I generally view stilettos as more of a weapon than a tool. I carry the ti-lite for self defense when I go to Baltimore for work. Mostly for peace of mind. I love this knife dearly and didn't anticipate even liking it!

Not a knife, but a stone. The SPS II #400 caught me by surprise. Cut faster than I expected without a slurry while leaving an acceptable working edge. Probably the one stone I would take in the field as a combo profiler and finisher.

Add a third entry for the CF CruWear Manix 2. Hell, I feel like a broken record at this point, but that's definitely the last knife that surprised me.

It was my first Manix so I didn't have a lot to go on. I knew I'd like CruWear just not the knife it was stuck too. Couldn't have been more wrong about that.

Got a Fiddleback Recluse recently. It is more refined, attractive and lighter than I expected.

Great knife!

OSO Sweet and SRM7010 made me re-think the whole Chinese budget knives thing...

I picked up a SRM land 9103 off a lost bet and a stupid Advance Knife Bro video, and holy crap I wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near that good for $15. Still can't believe it. Probably my nicest folder under $60. Even the 12c27 is nice. It's like a moped, fun when you are by yourself, but don't let your bros catch you riding dirty...

if you get a nice one (go for tried and true models) these budgets SRMs and LANDS punch way above their price point

another one that really, greatly surprised me was the Leatherman Crater, never thought that a multitool-centered brand would make such a nice folder for the money

SRM/LAND 910 Plus. I had a feeling it would be pretty good, and I'm a big fan of 12C27, but it's basically my favorite folder right now. First experience with the brand.

I've had two very pleasant surprises recently, both from smaller knives that I didn't expect to like. The Southern Grind Spider Monkey, in copper, was one. I bought it specifically because I like copper...and figured it would be one of those knives that I own, but never carry. I was beyond surprised that I actually liked it; and it quickly became a regular in my pocket. The other was a Spyderco Mantra 2. I wanted a small, easily & reliably opening knife to give as a gift...and I thought a flipper was the best option. I'd recommended a Leek for this person years before; now it was time (in my mind, at least) to replace it. I'll skip my logic process - I chose the Mantra 2... and was impressed enough by it that I bought one for myself shortly thereafter.

The Manix2 is a popular knife in this thread. I've always found it to be a great knife with great ergonomics. Actually , the Manix2 was my first Spyderco which I got back in 2010. Im a big fan.

For that particular exclusive it really ticks all the boxes. The fit and finish was exceptional, best I've ever gotten from any knife company. The material vs value seems to be steadily in the value side. For any company I'm sure that's a challenge.

That's what I think at least, haha.

Yes , I think Spyderco is the company to beat in the "best bang for the buck" department. High quality and high value. Just my opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised a couple of weeks ago when I recieved this beauty. Brass frame sits heavy in my hand, great fit. Blade is sharp and snaps out with a hell of a kick, wish you could hear it. A picture is worth a thousand words. Badass knife! Can't stop fondling it.
