When you drop a safe queen... on concrete...

I feel your pain. Would hate to drop a Lambert or such on concrete. Might not make you feel better, but bought my wife a Kawasaki 650R brand new for Valentines Day and surprised her. She went to lift off the kickstand and over estimated the weight. So, she flung the motorcycle onto its side on the concrete driveway and busted turn signal, foot rest and some plastic body panels. I wanted to laugh but she was horrified. Still a sore topic years later. We all trip and fall sometimes.

You have two options:
1. Mail it to me in order to escape the anguish, self-loathing and endless ridicule if you decide to sack up and post pics.
2. Beat the crap out of by cutting stuff with it.

Personally I am a big fan of #1. I'll even spare you any further pain by paying shipping and burning the return address on a youtube video!

Well, I will offer a slightly different point of view....

I have basically 3 types of knives that I own....

I have ones I use whenever, for whatever on a daily basis, that I do not see as even in my "collection"... true EDC and while I don't intentional abuse them I see them as 100% tools (like my spyderco mannix 2, PM-2, BM-940)

Then I have more expensive knifes that I carry less frequently and tend to limit to only lighter use (only cutting tasks...no prying, turning screws, chopping, etc) These would include my Sebenza's, my FF's, my Hoback, some of my Shiro's, and one of my Rocksteads... These are part of my "collection" , but treated with much extra care/respect.

Last I have my true, pure "collection" pieces that get no serious use and are not typically carried (dress Lamberts, Thorburns, Voorhies, Martins, Fishers, Williams, etc. etc)

I for one would be sick it I damaged any of the knives I own as actual collection pieces. I am not wealthy enough to view a $1500 and up (way up! haha) knife as any sort of actual user...

Lol! I got a kick out of this haha

I guess you need to keep safe queens indoors with carpeted floors or rugs. All I can say is "stuff happens". I have dropped knives. Honestly the most valuable items I have dropped on concrete by accident are tobacco pipes as they are all users even some pretty expensive ones.

This is one reason
Why I hated brass folders.
The bolsters might as well be made of egg shell.
Any how, all this accidental drops
surely highlights the desperate need
for technical solutions
To ensure survivability of a folding knife's
Handles/bolsters/scales.
At least that it doesn't deform upon impact.
I don't expect any coated finishing to remain unscathed.

Butt puckering stuff happens!!
Got my first 2 Sebenzas couple weeks ago.......and gave the butt puckering muscles a work out the other day!!
Driving home from work at about 9:00 the other night playing with a large 21 and did a rather spectacular lap drop exiting my truck.
Not a good feeling!! Till I realized its a tool, ya tool!! No obvious damage, but it's going to be carried and used anyway.
I have 2 safe queens, both given to me by my sons. I carry them, but really don't use them much. The rest are used.
Seems I enjoy them a lot more when they are doing the job they were created to do.

I am by no means wealthy but I can't own a knife and not use it with very limited exceptions. I have 3 knives I own and don't use and all for more practical purpose.
#1 A micro knife I bought on a whim for fun it is functional in that it can cut but it is too tiny to functionally use for anything
#2 My great grandfather's knife I honestly just can't let this thing go or anything happen to it and while I know little of it Id say its a relatively worthless knife
#3 My grandfather's knife it is rather large so carrying it is difficult and it is duller than a butter knife at this time so doesn't really function

So eventually I will get an edge back on #3 and find a good way to carry it and bring it into rotation but the other 2 just not going to ever use.

I can understand safe queens but will never buy a knife myself and never use it or carry it i expect any knife I get to end up with some battle scars from being carried and used even if it is just pocket wear from contact with what else may be in a pocket.

Yep, I've been there. Dropped a nice knife mid-stride and managed to coordinate the fall with the swinging of my foot. Boot leather prevented any need for sutures, but I did manage to punt the damned thing down the driveway. Marred just about every surface.

If yours is a full custom you might try reaching out to the maker. They may be able and willing to refinish it for you.

I didn't drop my brand new ZT0909 by accident.........I threw it under a dumpster wheel to stop the dumpster from rolling away. It bent the liner, and chewed up the G10. It looks like ass now, but it is still serviceable, and I carry it daily. To fix the problem I went out, and bought a brand new 0909 to keep as a spare. OP...maybe pick up a duplicate, and use the dropped knife as a user? That's what I'd do.

Lucky you! Now you get to use that knife the way the maker intended! No longer are you bound by the need to wipe every fingerprint off of it constantly,or making sure you don't scratch it when you put it in and take it out of a safe. Enjoy the freedom that you only feel when you know you are actually putting the knife to good use! On a side note, I only buy users, pm me what it is and what you want for it, I will possibly take it off your hands. We are close enough you won't even have to ship it.

I appreciate the empathy and the offer, but the knife was a gift. It has a lot of sentimental value to me, and I would prefer to keep it.

If I buy gear/equipment and it gets scratched, broke, tore up in the commission of its duties I'm okay with it. If not, there's hell to pay.

I've been thinking about this safe queen thing. To me, buying a knife and just looking at it would be like marrying Miss America or better yet Miss Universe and just looking at her. :)
Just my 2 cents. Please Don't get ur panties in a bunch. I think knives are a tool and meant to use. Mine have to pull their weight.

What you mean is, it would be like your Friend marrying Miss America.
:D

Now that the initial fear of damaging the knife is gone, you'll be able to truly fall in love with it, through serious use. Congrats!

Yea, now the knife is pre-disastered. What else can happened to it? Use her....err...it!
You won't have to worry about scratching it when you sharpen her?
