When you first came to BladeForums, what were the knives you were most interested in?

I got here in the beginning of '06 and I was pretty drawn to the Kershaw Bumps. The Spec and Ti Bumps in particular. Since then my interest in recurves and AOs has waned. But now that I've started this thread, I think I may have to get a Ti Bump before they go completely extinct. If I can find one at a reasonable price, that is.

I came here after watching all the Nutnfancy knife reviews, I used to be a real gun nut, but recently I have switched more to knives. So the knives I initially was interested in were the ones he was, like the Spyderco Tenacious, Stretch, Delica, Benchmade 940, Rat 3, Cold Steel Recon Scout, ontarion rat 1, Benchmade mini grip, bit since then I have strayed quite a bit, for a while I was buying knives that sacrificed utility and weight for looks, and recently I have been apretiating more and more those original Nutnfancy knives, And have sold most of my knives that aren't great for carry and have excellent ergos.

In late 1999 like now I was really into Benchmades and Spydercos, and I was just getting ready to get back into slip joints. Since then I've gone slip joint crazy including SAKs and added Kershaws to the mix!

I've had knives since I was in middle school. Was given a SAK as a present that was my first knife. But overall after becoming an adult I was and still am into firearms and at one gun show picked up a CRKT M16 because I wanted a more robust EDC. That knife was the beginning of my downfall.:D

Just Cold Steel. Thank god I'm out of that phase. So many more to choose from!

I was pretty open when I joined. My only "decent" folder at the time was/is a '99 Emerson CQC-7 CE. I would have to say that BFs got me into Ti frame-locks as those really weren't of interest to me up until I became a member (No so much because I didn't like them, just wasn't that aware of them at the time).

BTW, Kaizen, wish I knew you were interested in a Ti Bump. I got rid of a green one recently...:(

I was looking for a replacement for the Spyderco Delica3 I ran over with the mower. Ended up with a Griptillian and never really liked it as much. A few years later I was researching fixed blades and ended up back here for advice. Somehow I got into fixed blades, then kydex, then Spydercos again (Traded the Griptillian for a used Delica3 just like the one I destroyed).

Now Bladeforums has lead me into the addiction of traditional slip joints.

Coincidentally, AOs in general, and the Kershaw Bump series in particular, were also what got me started on serious knife collecting and led me to BFC. And, exactly like you, my taste in knives pretty quickly shifted away from AOs and (especially) recurves.

Cold Steel. I just like the way they look. I came here for a few reasons, one of which is to find other brands that look as good. Spiderco and others I've seen make good knives, but I don't like the way the look. If I don't like the look of a blade, I'm obviously not going to carry it.

I thought CRKT and Gerber were awesome and didn't appreciate Spyderco at all, although i had never held one when I first joined up. I thought Benchmades were nice, but overpriced.

I do still own one CRKT knife, but own 6 spydies and couldn't imagine better knives for the price.

.... to see what Benchmade are up to these days - kind of lost touch. Initially, it looks to me me they have taken a couple of backward steps - but I may be wrong.

I thought the same way before using Spydercos. When I first got here, I was more concerned with the way knives looked. Now I'm a fan of many of Spyderco's designs. It's very difficult to know why so many people like Spyderco until you carry and use the knives themselves especially after trying out other knives based solely on looks.

I think I was most into a Spyderco Endura with ZDP-189. Up until I tried to cut a mango pit with it and was faced with the cruel reality that what I had in my hand was a KNIFE and not a lightsaber:eek:.

I was mostly interested in Benchmade knives when I first started lurking on BladeForums. I remember the first time I looked at a thread someone had posted that they had just gotten a Sebenza. Looking at the pictures of the Sebenza, I remember being thinking how foolish someone must be to buy a $400 knife made with virtually the same materials that my ~$140 Benchmades were made out of.

Nowadays I usually decide between whether to carry a Sebenza or an Umnumzaan when I get up in the morning. I own several Spydercos, but I just never seem to end up carrying any of them other than the CF Caly 3.

Fallkniven and Bark River.

Though I own knives from other makers, the majority of my user knives are from these two companies.

The knives I was interested in back then are pretty much the same as the knives I'm looking at today (super steel), the only big difference is now I am picky about blade and handle shape.

vintage blackjacks, bark river, vintage carbonv cold steel.spyderco, benchmade. barry dawson customs, and esee whoops can you say that brand here
