When you first came to BladeForums, what were the knives you were most interested in?

I googled "best knife" in May 2006, and it led me to Bladeforums...oh boy...If only I knew. From a total newb in knives 6 years ago, I'm now making my own knives and sheaths, and have a pretty decent albeit small knife collection. Met some awesome people that share the same passion. All I can say is THANKS BLADEFORUMS!!!

At first I was a hopeless Cold Steel addict. I still have a soft spot for some of their stuff, but I've since moved on.

In the early days bladeforums was my source for information on types of steels and who was using them. Then I came into some fat wads of cash for a short season, and I became a lurker on the Exchange. I was in the market exclusively for tacticool stuff. I gravitated towards Spyderco, made some daliances with Benchmade, and tried out some Kershaw lovin'. Ultimately though, because of all the press, reviews, and exposure they've gotten here on the forum I've staked out some territory in the Spyderco camp.

Since then I've evolved realized that I really really love traditional slipjoints. That's all I buy anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'll still pull out the Spyderco Military when it's needed, but GECs, Queens, and the ocassional Case are my constant companions. It's all thanks to the fine folks who hang out here on the forum, and I couldn't be happier.

Me too!

When I joined this forum my interest lay with large, heavy duty, single bladed, locking, carry clipped, "tactical" style knives. These were the knives I was interested in for years and years before coming to BF. Nothing has changed. These are still the type of knife I am most interested in and the type that makes up 90% of my collection. The only thing that has changed, if you can call it that, is that I now look for deep carry pocket clips when I consider a purchase, either a knife that comes this way, or a knife that I can make or modify a deep carry clip to fit.

Although the above is my type knife, I have found that I like some slipjoints and have a few of these. I also found a interest for some types of fixed blades since coming to BF's.:)

Before Blade Forum I got interested in knives due to someone at work who liked CRKT, Gerber, Cold Steel and Benchmade. Then I watched Nutinfancy's reviews on U-tube and was influenced by his 4 ounce limit so all but one CRKT were sold, as were half the Cold Steels and Gerbers. I purchased more SOG's and when I joined the Forum many more Spyderco's. I have a less than $100 limit to save my bank account though.

I was researching a knife I saw in a gun magazine that intrigued me, the ESEE HEST. Once I found this site thru Google I decided on and bought the Becker Necker instead based on reviews and comments here. I like this site so much, I joined last month.

I was a CRKT fan. I still like them somewhat, just because they have some "out of the box" designs. I also had a Gerber or two and a Case.

I was researching a "Theater Knife". Now I do most of my research here before buying anything.

When I first started reading on here I was looking into buying my first (what I consider quality built knife). I wanted something by benchmade. Something with AO. Something with a black blade. Something that wouldn't break my bank.

I ended up buying a benchmade 585.

Since then my tastes (and spending limit) have changed.

what brought me was m crappy knife choice. I payed $50 bucks for a smith and wesson knife that sucked. After starting to research it brought me hear. The knife I was interested in when I joined was the zt 0200 an it's still my dream tactical knife.

I carried a Kershaw Leek for 4 years as my only knife. I don't remember where I got it from or where I lost it, nor did I know what brand or model it was even though it probably said Kershaw right there on the handle. When I lost it I tried to find one locally going by what it looked like since I didn't know what it was called and what to ask for. I finally discovered that my knife was made by a reputable brand and seems to be a popular model. Since joining I bought over 30 Spydercos, some Benchmades, ZT, CRK, Strider, ESEE, and others but still have not replaced my Leek. I've always liked knives since I was a kid but only knew of Victorinox, Buck, and Spyderco. So that's my story, my lost Leek led me to BF.

Spent about 3 months researching Fehrman knives and stumbed upon BFs. I was very obsessed with Fehrman's Extreme Judgment and Last Chance

I found this forum while looking for info on old Schrade 49ers. Having been learning and collecting others ever since.

Wow, you've been registered for over 4 years and this is your first post. Glad you finally decided to post

Catoctin Cutlery had gone out of business in 1998, and were no longer importing Aitor knives. As the ready supply of Aitor knives began to dry up locally and on Ebay, I was looking to see if anyone had located Aitor's current US distributor. The search eventually led me to the knifeforums, and a link from there connected me here. As I recall it took me exactly 3 days to read every post and entry on Bladeforums (it was very small then), there were less than a thousand of us; but the conversation was always interesting and friendly, so I stayed. Aitor would never really make it back into the US, and my collecting interests would shift in favor of antiques; but it is the aquaintances you make along the way that makes collecting fun, and in that sense the Bladeforums has always been a treasure trove.
