Why do they always press their thumb to the blade? I warn people before they do it and still--they always do it and get cut.

It runs on the same idea as putting up a sign that says "wet paint do not touch" for some dumbass reason people always have to check the warning is accurate lol

I always assume the receiving party doesn't know any better, and I warn that the knife is Wicked Sharp!!!:D

I beleive it is because the average joe doesn't have much experience with knives apart from kitchen cutlery, which a lot of times is quite dull. Therefore they have no reason to beleive that your pocket knife is any sharper than their dull kitchen knives.

The same idiot laughed when I answed that I got it that sharp with a piece of leather. I just tell them to GOOGLE leather strop. I don't want to argue.

I agree. I do warn people that I know my knife is really sharp, but they don't listen.

I have had this happen! I was at work and a regular customer that knows I make knives asked to see my latest creation.I hand it to him and the first thing he does, before I can say a word,is run his thumb down the blade. He recived a nice deep gash for his stupidity. He looked at me with the most surprised look on his face and said "F#%# that thing is sharp!" I can not for the life of me figure out what would make a person think that is a good idea:confused:

I don't say anything, I just let them cut themselves. When they do, I ask them if the hit themselves with. Hammer everytime they pick one up. Its a tool, it does what its supposed to do.

They are not testing the edge. They are testing you. See blood? Congratulations you passed!!

I don't hand my knife to people. In the rare occasion that I do, it will be someone experienced with sharps...and they know what to expect from me...

Generally, this^^^

But, I still facepalm when the same employee cuts himself repeatedly on my knives. He even managed to cut me once, with a knife I gifted to him. I even showed him the blade whittling hair, first thing he does is touch his thumb to it.

I have had the same thing happen ,now I don`t hand people my knife. I test an edge by feel with my thumb/fingers but other (regular)people really have no idea what sharp is. They even learn sometimes ;)

I think they see people do it, Then they do it to "look Smart". But don't know why and that you don't go in a SLICING motion. I have had people do this in front of me. I just looked at them in disbelief and asked why did you just cut yourself??

I dont think the average person understands the difference between sharp and owner is a knife nut SHARP.

The last guy tried to "cowboy" the blade shut, but got his finger in there somewhere. Man, I was dumb to hand it to him; should have known he'd hurt himself.

I have resorted to this option
My coworkers still do it

Completely agreed

Yea, still cant figure this one out. Happens nearly every time to me too.

Over the years I've gained and increasingly low expectation of the general populace and have just come to expect people to do the dumbest thing in any given situation.
