Where can I find an asian company to produce blanks?

swilliamf, just because you don't agree with the regulars here, who do this for a living and would like their effort and their livelihood respected, you don't have to be rude either.

To be fair to the guy who-ever moved him here threw the sheep to the lions. This thread should have went to the manufacters forum. His question wasn't about knife makeing but haveing knives manufactured.
There's a Mod. laughing his butt off over this.

I do not think I was rude. If you (or any one) did you are welcome to email me about it. I understand that constantly dealing with people who are ignorant about knife making is not easy but the way to be respected is to educate people not yell at them for not knowing any better.
He got advice and hurled insults, you bet I'm celebrating not having this guy around. Not understanding knifemaking and needing some guidance is one thing. When you call several people giving you FREE advice duragatory names the only place your welcome is out the door.

This man while completly ignorant was polite until he was bashed. Go back and look.

Edit: got an email and would like to clear things up. I do not agree with what the op was saying. He clearly did not know anything about custom knives but my problem came when people used this ignorance as an excuse to be rude to him.

Anyway not that it matters but I Agree with most of you look towards home first

No one chased him away...he didn't like what he heard and left.
I'm not saying everything from Asia is bad, I just don't care for the mindset of sending work half way around the world when the work can be done right here in this country. Yes it will most likely cost more but I feel the product will be better for it.
Just for the record I have no problem if the OP hangs around and learns somthing, as long as he's willing to learn from shit head hillbillys.:D
Mace

P.S. James Terrio....sure.

 Someone say hillbilly? :D

I would hate to waste space on the internet, so I might as well make the most out of this post.

Sixteen bucks to cut out the blank is one thing. Steel cost is also afactor and then who is going to grind them? Then ther is the rest of the construction an the sheath.
You have not got a prayer to make them under 90.00 bucks

I believe that he could make them for $20 each, but only if he started with bar stock steel and did all of the work himself, which was NOT what he had in mind at all for this project.

But that's $20 each plus the cost of a grinder, drill press, kydex press, any bandsaw/hacksaw, etc. But then he would spend 10+ hours on each one (or less if he sacrificed quality) and only earn about $2 per hour of work. I hear McD's pays better than that.

If he finds someone to make those for him for $20 a piece , see if he can get them to make us a bulk run of corby style handle bolts for 10 cents a set ;)

Clearly you're a shithead Vegas hill billy. I KNOW you can get those things made for 3 cents a pair!!! Price gouger!!!!!! :grumpy:

BTW- OP, I am pretty worried about your 420 stainless knife with a shoelace handle competing with my forged bowies and fighters. I hope my collectors don't get wind of your idea.

Nick " One glove " Wheeler....

PS. Blade West ?????

i just caught wind of this thred and as i was reading i was like o man this is not gona go to well. it was like watching a midnight horror show. your screaming to your self "dont get out of the car" or "dont go outside" but thy do and you know whats going to happen. I had a laser place quote me 2-3 each for just cutting, then steel on top of that. I'm a hillbilly, spent most of my youth with nothing on my feet runing around all day playing in the dirt.

$20 ????

Wow, I wish I could even approach that cost.

Mikkel Willumsen and I just made 128 knives.
It cost us almost $12k
Before our labor.
$12k out of pocket !!!

Now imagine that shopped out to China, and because you're some kid in a garage with no cash and not enough business experience to get a bank loan you're paying for it with a credit card. If those knives don't get lightning fast turnaround and a smooth ride through customs, you could easily end up paying a thousand dollars in finance charges before selling the first one. And that's assuming the lowest bidder in the world communicated with you well enough to get the specs right, and the whole run doesn't need to be done over.

Some people think they can outsource a job (domestically or overseas) and just magically make money while someone else does the work. But that vendor wants to get paid now, and every second between now and when you sell that entire production run is costing money.

Gotta love a good old shithead hillbilly.

Since shit is just a slang term i guess i'll let this shit fly :)

Shithead....wonder how long it took to come up with that zinger ?

The Questionaire:"How do you guys change a light bulb?"
Guys:"Well lets see, you need light bulbs first."
The Questionaire:"I heard I can use a piece of wire and a carrot instead"
Guys:"What the hell are you talking about?"
The QUesitonaire:"I guess I asked the wrong people as you are claearly idiots here."

Every time i see it I'm extremely confused. Hope ya'll understand, and its not too cryptic.

From the start of this thread, I was thinking to myself that the original poster sounded like someone who may know quite a bit about knifemaking, then decided to create a second account to purposefully troll. His choice of words and comments seemed well planned to get the exact response that he received. I may be wrong, but I'll chalk this one up to trolling.
