Where can you buy them online, if there is such a place? And are the discounts worth buying a blem, or would you be better off just buying BNIB or slightly used to save some coin?

I'm gonna guess ebay, but wondering if there are some better places out there that you guys know of.

ChestnutRidgeKnifeShop.com usually has some good factory seconds, which is what you're describing I believe. I got a Marine Raider from there for $33, and those are usually $50-60. The only thing wrong is a minute little scratch near the hilt. I don't know of any specific sells-only-factory-second-knives website, but you can a lot of times find them directly from the manufacturer. That's what Spyderco and SOG do. Kershaw, too, maybe.

It really depends. In my position, buying a thirty-dollar knife that can easily be replaced, which doesn't come with a great warranty, it's okay. But if you were to buy an ESEE as a factory second, I'd recommend you just pony up the cash and get that beautiful warranty.

AG Russell has a website section for buying Seconds. The prices are discounted and the flaws are sometimes difficult to detect. If it's a knife for using and you're going to scuff it up anyway, why not save a few bucks?

SOG did (still does?) sell blemished products direct from their website. Not sure the savings - it's been a while since I checked.

Good luck in your quest.

Thanks for the reply. You mention Spyderco and SOG do this, but how would one go about finding out availability and pricing? Do you just email their sales departments and ask them what deals they have on them or what?

The kershawguy just put up a new listing in the dealers for sale area selling factory seconds with great prices. The seconds have very minor flaws and he is one of the fastest shippers there is.

I just checked the SOG website, my own curiosity, and couldn't find the blemished models for sale. Perhaps they don't sell direct any longer?

At the AG Russell website use the drop-down menu to navigate to: Knives -> Seconds.

KERSHAWGUY! He's the man with the masterplan. He just put up a ton of blemished Kershaws in the dealers for sale forum and I highly recommend dealing with him. Most of the knives you can't even find the blemish or its so tiny that it doesn't even matter, and his prices are awesome. Check him out.

+2 When it comes to Kershaw products, blem or otherwise Dave is the Go To Guy.

Hey, I just looked on Ebay (another place to look for awesome knife deals - sometimes) and I found Chestnut Ridge selling a ton of Rat knives as FS. Rat 7s and RTAK-IIs going for, like, $65, I think. Thought I'd put that on here.

If a customer wants just a really good working knife for the best deal thinking seconds is a good way, consider a ‘blank custom blade’ without a handle and all the art bells and whistles. Wrap handle with duct tape or leather and it might be possible to have same quality blade as in a $500 knife- for $50. Ask right here on blade forum among the custom guys.
