Where did your screen names come from?

I've been using frankjuka and variations of the same for about 15 years. A kooky acquaintance of mine grabbed my yearbook in high school and wrote this really long rambling entry. It was part Bukowski and part graphic novel. He addressed it to frankjuka and gave it back to me.

Thats where mine came from. How bout yours?

Mine came from my father... well, from his side of the family. It is my family name. I am Chuck Gollnick. I don't see -- nor do I understand -- the need to hide behind a "screen name." I am the same person here as I am "in person."

The e-mail address I registered with, chuck at balisongcollector dot com, is my "real" e-mail address. I didn't make a "throw away" account for this place because A) I don't do throw-away in general (probably why I'm no good with hand grenades), and B) because I certainly don't see my participation here as "throw away."

Insipid: makes sense. What did you try first?

Gollnick: yeah I'm not sure when the whole fake name thing really took off. I chose not to use my real name, but there's nothing really preventing it.

Bear claw: actually never watched Jeremiah Johnson. I'll check it out!

Schleif: well chosen. I have some interesting memories in Germany. Fuzzy but interesting :)

I very cleverly shortened my real name from Shannon to Shann, in an effort to hide my real identify. I think there may have already been a Shannon on the site when I signed up so I couldn't use my full name, but I don't really remember.

I was working on my computer one late night and had the jukebox setting set up with all the songs that had references to trains or planes that had "flyer" or "midnight flyer" in it. Then there were just train songs.

So the Eagles, Stephen Stills, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Graham Parsons, Poco, Buffalo Springfield, and others were happily playing. As the night went on, I finished my work and came back to read BF as I had been doing for about a year or two. Something caught my eye and wanted to respond. I had no idea I would be here for more than a month or two.

"Midnight Flyer" by Trapeze was playing on the machine, and I thought, "why not?". Liked the band, loved the song, and as a registered insomniac, all but a very few of my postings probably start around midnight.

However, I do use my personal email here and I am glad that I did as I have had some great conversations with fellow forumites I might have missed with a fake that was never checked. Also, I ALWAYS sign my posts with my given name.

Robert

Love graham parsons. Saw Merle down here at Gruene hall in Gruene Texas. :D

I've had some really nice interactions by email also. It didn't even occur to me to use a fake email.

Aluminum arrow + steel target frame + forgetting to adjust my sight when I moved back 10 yards = CLANG!

I used to do some BBQ catering but now just cook for friends & family. BBQ where I'm from pretty much means slow smoked brisket and I was known by some folks as the brisket guy. My avatar photo is of my dog Hondo, a year old Pyrenean Mountain Dog. He was born on a working ranch in Hondo, Tx and replaced my dear departed dog Shiner who was not born in Shiner, Texas but he was partial to the beer that comes from there.

Clang! Is a great name

Brisket is good too. A radio special the other day said that Franklin's BBQ in Austin is best in Texas. Whatchu think? (I expect you to say that YOURS is the best :)
