Just curious. I just ordered a couple Rough Riders last week from SMKW and was kinda surprised how much the shipping was (I guess I was thrown off that the shipping was the same price as the knife haha )!

So where do yall get yours? Online? Store?

Thanks again for helping me get addicted!:D

EDIT: title is supposed to say BUY...oops.

Online for the most part. I have a few vendors that I like to deal with. When it comes to customs, I prefer to deal directly with the maker.

If you are lookin for Case knives, Shepherd Hills has a huge selection and decent prices. I've bought a lot of knives off the big auction site too.
Always good to look at pawn shops and antique stores too. A lot of times antique stores are a little high, but you never know what you will find.

I typically don't order from websites because they're shipping is always high, and I'm not going to pay $7-$10 for shipping. So I almost always order stuff on Ebay. If I don't do that I will go to Cabelas or Bass Pro. And then there's always antique stores, pawn shops, and garage sales. :D

Shipping charges never bother me unless they are outageous, like $15 to ship a knife that normally costs $5. It really isn't a huge deal, it is part of abuying and selling things. The USPS gets my stuff to me so I pay my fair share. If you go to a store to buy something, guess what? You end up paying taxes so one way or another you will have to cough up the money, this hobby is not inexpensive.

Brick & mortar stores, online merchants and eBay.

Give Collectorknives.net a try - The owner is a member/contributor here. Nice selection (esp. if you're looking for GECs), good prices, great customer service, and fair shipping.

I like Deadwood Knives and Sooner State Knives is a great mom n pop shop but with really good prices.
And I think if you buy a GEC knife shipping is free no matter where you buy them from.

Ditto collectorknives.net. Mike is a great guy, and will get you what you want. I think he is over having "the bug" for the perfect knife, but he sure understands that animal when he sees (or hears) it. I have purchased several knives from him over a few orders.

Can't say enough good about my dealings with him.

I have had no problems with either Shepherd Hills or Grand Prairie Knives.

Shepherd Hills had an exclusive I wanted and GPknives has excellent photos. I don't know of any other online knife shop which does anywhere near as good of a job in the photography department.

I don't know which bladeforums sponsors sell Case knives. I must research this more.

Where do y'all by your traditionals??
Here are some recent traditional purchases I have made:
Shepherd Hills, Knifeworks, AG Russell, Cumberland Knife Works, and New Graham.

I agree that SMKW seems high for shipping, especially for a low-price order. But if you place a larger order it starts to balance out, and they often have free shipping deals, usually around Christmas.

I also find SMKW's shipping prices excessive. And their shipping takes fricking forever to get here. They are always my last resort for any kind of purchase. I will only use them if they are the only ones who have it.

Traditionals?
I don't do Rough Riders, but I use some of these folks for purchasing Traditionals:

knifeworks for Buck and Case
Shepherd Hills for exotic Case.
CollectorKnives.net
KnifeCenter.

Don't forget that SMKW usually shipping deals when ordering via phone during their Tue/Fri Knives Live satellite TV show (allow streamed on internet). Sometimes it's $5 or $7.95 flat rate regardless of total, and sometimes free shipping when your order exceeds a certain amount (e.g., $50 or $75). That said, I buy my folders largely from:

CollectorKnives.net
KnivesShipFree
TSA Knives
Doc's
Blue Creek Cutlery
ebay

ummm...I'm going to avoid a chiclet by just saying, "That is not ever going to happen with me as part of the equation."

Not when I can order from other folks anytime of the day or night and get that rate plus a lower base price to boot.
