Where do you draw the line ?

Good Question

Tough to say because it keeps changing.

My Big Beater is one of the first 300 Battle Mistress made by Jerry back when dirt was new.

I have had at least four of these, this one I bought used for about $500.00 back maybe six or so years ago, I paid more for this one than any of the others but it became my Big Beater after the first time I actually used it!!

I think it has to do with how it fit my hand, more comfortable during hard use.

I have a couple of other user SHBM's, this one just fits my hand better.
Edited to add: them other SHBM's make "Nice" Loaner knives to my good Friends.

I have a Sebenza (spelling) that sits in a drawer, in my pocket is a older first generation Benchmade AFCK, just seems to get used more.

In my kitchen I have knives ranging from a Busse N.I.C.K and a set of Murray Carter knives to Knives I picked up at the swapmeet for $5.00.

Use is more important than cost.

If you are going to use a knife, and you have the means, :D then comfort and useability are more important than cost.

And since you gave the guy the $5.00 he was asking for, you didn't feel guilty, right! LOL!!!

My buddy almost passed out when I pulled out a custom folder at a steakhouse when the steak knives weren't up to the task... He said that's a sweet knife where can I get one and how much.... When I said around 1500 bucks he literally fell out of his chair and couldn't believe I was using it. He know's I collect knives and guns and I don't really spend alot of money anywhere else, but I don't think he was prepared for that pricetag. He thinks twice about spending 50-100 for a pocket knife, but doesn't realize he goes through 5 or more of them a year and would save money if he bought a real quality user.

I get that too I have done the exact same thing with my Sebbie's, WH's and DDR's. I cut a steak at a wedding one time cuz they did not supply knives and handed my buddy a Sebbie he used it the whole time and like your friend asked how much it costs. He was blown away that I'd let him use a 450 dollar knife.....no biggie thats what its for. I recently used a Custom Bowie made by longrifle to delimb a tree and debranch the big limbs(cuz I wanted to ;) ) Full polish and Hamon the thing worked flawlessly.I use my Busse's and Rats alot cuz I know they'll take it and I know I'll be taken care of if for some reason they cant. Once I explain to people that If it gets messed up Jerry will help me out they start to understand that the people are just as impt as the knife.

impt ?

Hey, can _I_ be your "good friend?"

:D :D :D :D

I use a $50,000 scagel hatchet regularly. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.
Just kidding.

Important would be my guess.

Right now my line is right around $300. One of these days I'll show the MOAB some sweet lovin' and then that line will jump 533%.

Dang!!! What is he doin with them? I bought a spyderco lil temperance for 105 and it lasted 6 months of hard daily use with no problems.

Randucci,

That's right, "No Regrets"

David E,

My "Close friends" and Family already have Busse knives for the most part.

I have given away a few dozen, the problem is, that they always want more.

If you were at my house and we were going to the mountains for a day hike or longer you would be more than welcome to take one for the trip.

I even loan them to teenagers for the 2nd trip.

The first trip I loan them a Cold Steel Bushman to see how they behave.;)

Right now, I'd have to say that my line is drawn right around $342.00 mark, which happens to be what I paid for my HH.. :D

Well, I'd say I draw the line right here

I remember someone who would tout $1200 Brends as being users and if the person has faith in it, that is all that matters. Mad Dogs Tusks for $800 as users as well. Striders?

So looking at it like that, what is $500 for a busse?

So far the most expensive blade that I've used is my AK-47. I never think about the cost when I'm swinging that thing. It's the same way when I do a break stand with my dually and start burning 4 tires down. I'm smiling way too much to worry about what I just spent at Goodyear.  :D

You better send me that OD in a hurry!

I don't use these, I just lick them....a lot....

Did I mention that even though I like my knives, my dog actually uses them. Here he taking a break from chopping some wood.

and now here he is getting ready to finish the job

and here he is getting ready to clean up after a hard days work.

What a good dog!!!! Cobalt you trained your dog well and if I may add "What a cutie" What kind of dog is it?

That's Awesome Cobalt! My youngest son (I've mentioned this before) uses my HH as a teether. I highly doubt that he is as well trained at picking up as your dog, but I almost have him trained fetching my INFI (JK)!;)

Good idea !

I have a couple Busse's (and a couple Rat's.....shhhhhhhh !) myself, so if we ever did go hiking together, I'd probably have one to cover the anticipated uses.

Which would be what, for your area ?

.
