I've carried a knife all my life , but I'm starting to collect a little, my last purchase was from smkw .

The usual suspects.

The big four for me are probably:
DLTtrading
Knifecenter
BladeHQ
TheKnifeConnection

I also recently got something from USAMadeBlade, and had an awesome experience.

I really want to get something from Baryonyx. Maybe my next purchase, if it's something he carries.

Bladeforums Exchange
Knifeworks (mostly for kw exclusive)
BladeHQ (mostly for bhq exclusive)
Knifecenter/DLT Trading/kershawguy/SMKW (mostly for the best prices)

In the above order from the most to the least.

Is SMKW a supporting dealer? I don't think so, right?

(not saying it's wrong to mention their company in the context of answering this question, just curious.)

The exchange mostly
DLT
Have bought a couple new knives off eBay dealers bc that was the only place I could find them.

BladeForums sponsoring dealers vs. authorized dealers from specific makers/brands is a good place to start... also here on the exchange... other then that I typically shop around all of the above+ and try to simply find the exact knife I'm after still on stock, or simply find the best deals...

and from a local shop from every country I'm lucky to visit, I try to manage to get the local knife whatever it is as a souvenir.

Oh and from Jay West, when I want a true custom fixed blade.

Call me crazy, but i get my knives from the local small town hardware store , from Walmart, and of course there's old knives to be found at thrift stores ...ect.

The local hardware store doesn't have a huge selection and they're a bit overpriced, but they are my kind of knives.
I also like supporting a locally owned business that cares about the community, no matter how insane it's owners are. They're not lunatics or anything, but last year at my cousin's ffa auction they gave some kid $20 per pound for his pig and that's insane :D

Your best bet is to buy from the reputable dealers who support our wonderful forum.

It's about an even split between the forums, the 'bay, amazon, and dealers. I just lurk all of them until the knife I'm looking for comes up at the right price.

my goto is
DLT Trading
but some others I frequent are
USA Made Blade
Knives Ship Free
GPKnives
Knifeworks
BladeHQ

and there are others there is a list of forum supporting dealers here ...

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/paid-dealer-members-list-updated-2-5-16.1089879/

and can't forget the custom makers on our forums or makers that sell through the forums such and Carothers Performance Knives and a few other that have sales on the forums and occasionally preorders.

My list includes those big 4, all great so far, with additions of Knives Ship Free and Collectors Knives whose owner is active in bladeforums, answers the phone (at least when I called) and has been real good to deal with. Looking to buy from USA. I do buy locally some times. I have bought off the big river in the past, but trying to avoid now (counterfeit concerns) and my tastes are getting too specialized...

I avoid Ebay, Walmart, and Amazon(knives) due to their shady sub-contractors. I have received quite a few used/damaged knives that were advertised as NIB. I have also thought I was getting a good deal, and was instead sent a cheaper model that did not match the picture, or description. I like the larger, reputable on-line dealers like Knife Center, Blade HQ, Kershaw Guy, GPknives. There are also a few good non-BF on-line dealers. IMO, BF doesn't have a lot of good, like new, value knives($110 or less) to sell, or trade. I see mostly expensive 'limited edition' production, mid-techs, and customs being sold/traded.

(Knifecenter isn't an option as long as they continue to sell Quartermaster knives as Made in USA)

BladeHQ and Knifecenter, depending on what discount codes are available at the time. I prefer BladeHQ, but I'm not in the US and they don't ship outside of the country so I have to use a forwarding service as opposed to Knifecenter which will ship international. Also a lot of transactions on Bladeforums and trusted Instagram users.

I used to buy a lot from Fort Henry, but a knife went missing in shipping and they weren't even bothered to file a proper report and stopped responding to emails once they had their cash. They have rare customs, but I'm not going to buy from someone who won't even make the effort to file a claim with USPS for a missing package.
