Where do you get your knives?

So I am about to drop an extra fifty just to be able to handle it first. If I don't want it they will just put it on the shelf and sell it to someone else. That is worth a premium to me, $45 premium hurts, but still worth it to me to see how it feels. EDC does mean I am going to use it everyday and I do not want to be annoyed evey day

I did go to another store and asked what the difference in steel was between the BM that had 550 on the blade and one that had 570 (I don't know if the numbers are correct at all). The guy said something to the effect of "It is benchmade, all you need to know is it is better than either of us would ever need". My response was "Yeah, I like Benchmades", but as I walked away I just thought "what a condescending ¥$=%, and that is just wrong". Admittedly I showed some ignorance not knowing it was the model number but....

But if a store works with me I will give them a bunch of money more, the other one I now have no qualms going in looking at their stuff and ordering online.

I own hundreds of knives and perhaps 2 dozen were purchased from retailers. Almost all of my knives have been purchased unseen & untouched via internet, mail order/catalog, or from somebody on a forum.

I'll have to say about 90% of the time online, much of it here. Here he Chicago, there used to be several knife shops. At the moment I'm unaware of any. I don't think the B&M stores can offer anywhere near the Internet prices. I substitute reviews for feeling the knife. Now that I think of it, the last few years I've bought my watches online also and my camera and a lot of my clothing. Brick-and-mortar may someday become a memory.

Great shop that sells everything in KY that I go to, and getting a deep discount always helps too :)

Some knives come from Amazon, others come from Wal-Mart or the local pawn shop, others still come from gun shows if I see something I like.

Most of mine have come from online auctions. I also buy from online forums, including a few from our forum recently. I buy from stores, both brick and mortar and online. I buy from dealers and from custom makers at knife shows.

I have bought a lot of knives that I haven't seen or felt. Since I buy a lot online and don't have good stores around me, that is my only option.

I go to that little shop in Sevierville TN once a year on vacation.
I buy my father, brother, brother in law and myself a knife from there every year.
They are usually higher than most places but it's nice being able to hold the knife that you're interested in before buying it.
I buy everything else online. I have no local "knife shop" except a Bass Pro. They're higher than a cats back.

I buy most online from the USA. It's way cheaper than buying from Swedish online dealers (taxes and duties included). I bought a few at a knife shop in the capital, but they've since closed. If I find a knife shop when I'm abroad, I give it a look. The only knife I've gotten straight from the maker is a Fällkniven (next day delivery within Sweden).

I purchase my knives mostly online nowdays. I occasionally purchase a knife or 2 from Wally World or a local sporting goods store if they have good prices but their selections are limited and the only dedicated knife store in my area is WAY overpriced.

All my knives except one were purchased on-line. Favorite dealer is NGK. Annie is sweetheart.

I buy them from the people that make them. smith & wesson, case, mulea, k-bar,kershaw and any other name brand that I can get a deal on. I use to sell at the flemarket. every knife dealer hate my guts. I figger a good price and sell it at that price. the knife dealer around the conner started selling k-bars at list price too. what he he stupid? I drop 1/3 off the list price and that is what I was selling them for. at the time I got one heck of a deal on k-bars so I drop my price down to $30.00 plust tax and boy did the run up to the office and raise a stink about my priceing. I have to make money on every sale but lets not get stupid about it and I think some of these dealers it went to there head.

I have a pretty good kife shop near me with a knowledgeable staff that stocks most the production knives that I like (BM, Kershaw/ZT, CRK, Spyderco), however, I do pay more with going to the store, but I like supporting that store (family owned). Also, I have been known to frequent the Spyderco factory a LOT. Even though the prices at the factory aren't the best, you can do all the QC you want before you buy. For the interwebs, bladeHQ has always been great.

Oh, I'm a sucker for pawn shops too. I love to haggle with pawn shop employees because most of the time they have no idea what an item is worth, just what they paid for it.

I've paid over prices of some of the blades that I have, but I do tend to think the purchase through and plan to look around at the online dealers... Then it comes down to if I trust the dealer or not. Your pace count may vary.

If the store close to me stocks the knife or can order it in I usually go there. Mostly because I like to pay cash and I want the knife now.

If they don't have it then I'll look to knifeworks. Then on from there until I find the knife.

I get a lot right here on the forum! For a common knife amazon usually has good prices and you can get free shipping. For a higher end knife I use grand Prarie knives, they are very easy to deal with and their prices are good.
