Going to be needing a small amount for the Inquisitor so I thought I'd see what you guys prefer as far as suppliers go.

Gotta do some research too on what level of purity I need too.
This will be for an inlay going all the way through the blade.

Thanks

I was in the silver business for years and hands down I'd go with www.monsterslayer.com

100% of their silver is a recycled product, they have just about anything you can think of and great prices as well.

The owner is a really nice guy and so are the employees. Almost everyone who works there is a Silversmith so they know their stuff. It is on the Navajo Reservation and many of them are 5th generation smiths, I have learned a lot just by being in the parking lot and talking to the locals!

Indian Jewelers Supply is also great but I haven't bought from them as much, I only hear good things though.

www.ijsinc.com

Silversmithing is huge here, we have several local suppliers. I always check the pawn shops for tools and have an awesome hand made stamp collection. You wouldn't believe what you can do with an old motor valve and a saw!

Ebay once in a while. And check the coinstar machines when you walk by, people leave stuff in there from time to time.

Is your inlay that cross hole?

If the hole straight through, are you going to enlarge the middle so doesn't just shrink and pop out ?

I would consider low temp silver soldering it in.

Sam, I am going to undercut (I think that is what it is called) the cross.

Mike, is it more expensive to buy forks and spoons or plate?

Today silver was 30.63 canadian a troy ounce, so i would have been charged 32.13 an ounce
this is for sterling silver which is 92.5% pure, you can get purer for more money
we melt the forks and such down do pull wire, for casting, or make sheet ourselves
i belive that its easier and possibly cheaper to buy it in cutlery, unless you live near a refinery, but that isnt a fact, just my belief
you might want to look into maybe trying Shibuichi, a mix of 75% copper 25% silver, it patinas really well
Hope this was some help Patrice

Thanks Mike, great help for sure. I think I want sterling for this knife (as some suggested, vampire killing and all ;)) but I will take a look at shibuichi. I guess that you make that yourself. If so I have to look into how to melt silver and copper and make alloys like that.

Shibuichi, when hit with a brass brush, can put out about the same finish as silver, so im told
also if you patina it and steam it, it can produce a cool rainbow affect

Mike, did you buy the silverware at the website you mentioned? I did not find info about that on there.
Thanks
