For such a small project, like you suggested you can get old used silver coins.
try coin dealers and pawn shops - although they often try to charge way too much
Coin condition is not important so you can use a really worn silver coin.
If you scour junk shops like the Salvation Army and such places, you can sometimes find souvenir spoons and cutlery.
They will be marked Sterling, 92.5 or other marks.
It's tough to find the stuff because there are many others also looking, but you can get lucky.
