Where do you see the Trail Master San Mai III being in the near future?

A2 will rust. I prefer D2. Just me.
I've owned both and never jad any big issues with a2. And D2 isnt the best at corrosoon resistance. There are much better steels, pretty much all the stainless steels are better than d2 for corrosion.

Lately the cheapest I've seen the San Mai Trailmaster was just under $300.00.

It was also out of stock and overdue when I tried to buy one on a site that had a 25% off sale a couple weeks ago.

3V is a good choice for the non-stainless version.

The problem is not with the steel but with the bad grind, which could happen with any steel.

I doubt they will go back to SK5 or if they do, they'll keep the prices up and claim it is a supersteel.

The easiest way to make a better Trailmaster would be to fix the grind issue with the 3V version.

Maybe giving it a convex grind would be a good idea, but that is probably too much to ask if they can't get a flat grind right.

Not impressed with the finish of the 3v recon scout. The SanMai TM has much better finishing from your closeup pics.

I think there’s still grease on the blade making it look weird.
Yes, I bought two of them, and they both are smeared with grease.

The Japan made TM does have a bit better fit and finish though. And it also has a really nice convex grind.
