Where To Buy Used? (other then here)

So my grail knife is a Benchmade Griptilian. Not much of a grail considering what you might see around here, but still. I now have a summer job so I have some extra income, and feel the time to secure one has come.

Now I need to figure out where I want to get one. So, my question is regarding where to buy a used one, other then here? This is the first place I look, but as of late I haven't seen any, and I don't want to buy new because it's just too much. Also would you trust a place like fleaBay? Where else might you look? Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks

Ebay is OK if you go with a well established seller. The big guys tend to have more negative feedback due to the massive volume they process, but won't have any negative feedback mentioning "fake". Most accept returns also.

Avoid sellers based in other countries, especially if their prices are too good to be true.

Smaller sellers tend to have great deals on "like new" knives and also usually take pictures of the actual knife (avoid those who don't), while the big guys usually use stock photos. It's important to know the difference between a counterfeit and the real deal.

Regardless who you buy from, always check feedback.

If you do get screwed (even if the seller doesn't offer returns) Ebay will make it right and you will get back every penny. However, the process takes a week or two.

Since you plan to buy used, tread carefully in the land of Ebay.

Gents, there is a rule here about deal spotting.
So be really careful as to what you recommend.

Personally, I wouldn't buy used anywhere but here. I'm no shill. The downside is you have to be patient. Maybe really patient (though not for a Grip). The upside is you can actually know exactly what you are buying. In my opinon, that's a HUGE upside for the used knife buyer.

I agree with this. I don't trust eBay.

Thanks for the advice. I have mixed feelings about eBay, and usually don't trust the sellers there. I think I'm going to wait for one to pop up here.

If you are familiar with reddit, google r/knifeclub and on the right side of the page under other fun subs.

You could always post a thread in the Want To Buy forum.it may increase your chances of getting one in your price range.

Please tell us which Griptilian you want to get.

About buying used, I bought my first Grip used at a REI used gear sale. Cost me $20 bucks. I also bought one on ebay for $65. D2 steel, drop point 551. Great knife. Personally, I would get a Ritter if I had to do it again.

I've got some amazing deals on guns and knives at the local pawn shops. YOU really need to be careful as pawn shop buyers arnt knife experts (on the counterfit front) so arm yourself with the knowledge to spot a fake and don't hesitate to Google any questions you have while holding the knife in hand.

I find it worth it as it comes with a upside in that they usually don't price LE / sprints any higher than the base models (because they don't know) ... I've gotten some of my very best deals from pawnshops that just didn't know what they're selling

Best one: West German Sig P226 w/ butt mag release priced as if it were a current model P226. I made over $800 when I finally sold it (though honestly it's my biggest ever sellers regret item, wish I still had it)

Here! Looks like 7 griptilians (even with my weak search skills) sold here in May already. You could also check on the trade threads. Good luck!

I want a run of the mill plain edge, 551 in 154CM with a drop point. Nothing special.

Thanks everyone for the advice, for now I'm just going to check here. Maybe something will come up, I might break and buy new, lol. Problem is, and I can't lie to myself that one will be enough, I'll want a mini, then a Ritter, then new scales, then.....

Amazon warehouse might have one pop up once in a while. It's not nearly as good as it used to be, but it's still worth trying.

If you want a Ritter, NOW is the time to buy. The longer you wait, the harder they will be to find. The price will continue to go up, too.

BTW, I carry the "nothing special" 551 in 154CM as my full size EDC. It has been a great knife and has served me well. When I want something smaller that still has an Axis lock, I reach for a Benchmade 531, also in 154CM. Very nice combo of knives but, like I said before, if I had to do it again, I would go with a Ritter instead of the 551.

Is the only difference between the Pardue grip and Ritter grip blade geometry/shape? What are the pros and cons of them?
