Which Benchmade should I buy?

If you have a tool steel EDC it can be handy to have a coated blade, if it is stainLESS and/or you take good care it doesn't matter much.

Don't worry about the scratches, any knife that you use will get them eventually, it's just part of it. Buy a backup safe queen if you want one to remain pretty.
Best of luck.

Is the amount of drag when slicing really more noticeable with a coated blade?
Again, it depends on the coating.

Most 'DLC' coatings are quite smooth and the drag would be detectable by only the most experienced.

Some of the coatings on 'outdoor' knives (ESEE, BECKER, etc) can be quite rough and the difference between the same knife with a coated blade and a stripped blade is astounding. This is why I automatically strip the coatings from my 'camp' knives.

While I'm not a fan of the Griptilian and I do like the looks of a black coated blade, I would recommend the OP just get the standard satin plain edge model and don't dwell on the differences. The standard satin blade will serve well for an everyday knife.

IMO there is really no significant advantage to a black (or other color) coated blade over an uncoated blade when the blade steel is modern stainless. For the average knife user, the coating is cosmetic only. I like it. But I like it best after the coating gets scratched and worn and takes on character. Uncoated blades also get scratched but, to my eyes, they just look scratched.

Never had much love for the Grip series. My favorite BM's for EDC are 904,908,51,940. I carry the 903 more than any other. size, weight are great. Some dont like the handle shape I have no problem with it. But a axis stryker manual is a classic. I went with tanto for sentimental reasons but its not as practical as the 903. Tip is decent and I dont feel bad about using it to pry things open which might otherwise bend the tip of a non tanto.

I myself have been researching .y next purchase - A higher end edc and have decided on the BM 940-1...I hear how great this knife is and like it aesthetics wise/smoothness combined with light weight and excellent steel. I am still less familiar with the BM offerings as I am with other companies. I do have a BM530 and its a great little knife...I am just worried that even though the 940/940-1 is larger, more robust, it is still more of a gentleman's folder and I am entertaining the idea of a similar but heavier duty BM...not an Adamas folder heavy duty just something that won't cause blade movement or wiggle after use (like which has occurred with my 530..and yes I've tried adjusting everything...going to send it in for repair.) So all in all I LOVE the 940 offerings but HATE any sort of blade wiggle or play and due to it being so light weight and long as well, I'm hoping it doesn't inheret the same trait as my 530 did.

Not to highjack your thread but any suggestions, opinions or alternatives would be appreciated.

Thanks
Nick
