Which Bladeforums discussions have had the greatest impact on shaping your knowledge of knives?

So many conversations over the years. Trial and error helped me hone in on likes and dislikes as well as the opinions of the people here.

The EDC thread and latest acquisitions threads definitely are an influence.

Provably the Exchange where I saw variety and the different steels, and the different shapes and I started asking questions on the general forums, and got good advice and answers from the nice folks. Secondly, from the traditional section, that I prefer traditional styles, learned about history of older knives and companies. Lastly from JK knives where John was super answering making techniques, and met a good bunch or people, and then looking at the other makers forums. Also the daily carry and pocket dump threads let me see stuff others like and carry.

When I was new here I poured over threads in MTE on sharpening & other topics. Very influential. Very helpful. And very friendly people over there.

When I was a new member and just getting into knives I bought a BM 940-2 that was less than a masterpiece. I started a thread about it, and lots of folks chimed in on how I might try to tune it up. palonej palonej in particular was very helpful and friendly.

Finally, the Exchange was very influential in helping me figure out where my tastes truly lie. I probably wouldn’t be into knives (certainly not as much) if my early exploration required retail prices. My first Exchange purchase was from 10after10 10after10 ; undoubtably he recognized it was my first time there, and he was really cool about it.

Like everyone else, there are just too many to mention.

One that I haven't seen discussed above is Mecha Mecha . Either as a participant or a fly on the wall, his discussions regarding geometry, metallurgy and his pioneering work with titanium were always entertaining and informative.

Frankly, all WIP threads hosted by our makers are excellent talk. It's fun to talk through their process so openly.

Thanks oldmanwilly!

There's really a lot of great people and info here. In general though I'd like to credit all of Whine & Cheese forum for greatly honing my ability to troll and counter-troll on the internet. An invaluable skill in this business. Probably the discussions that had the greatest impact. 😆

A couple people whose posts I always appreciate would be FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades and N Natlek , and some of the sword forum guys like NihontoEd NihontoEd R Rich S horseclover horseclover , and then interesting personalities like JParanee JParanee , Kohai999 Kohai999 , not to mention the huge photographic contributions of SharpByCoop SharpByCoop

The threads that pointed out the objective facts that the Cold Steel Voyager, SR1, and AD10 are the best knives money can buy.

I don't know but for some reason I love reading the threads where folks debate knife etiquette in public and share stories of their work and life related knife experiences - bosses messing it up, regulations, etc
