Don’t know what the deal is with all the double posts... never seen this many all at once.

I always have a multi-tool, a traditional and a clip-on folder on me - always.

I will add a fixed blade when I am camping or hiking or just want to get "woodsy".

I voted folder because if I had to choose just one, I would likely pick a folding knife, but one that has multiple blades and tools, such as a Victorinox Waiter. You never know when you will need a cap-lifter or corkscrew, and those times of need are dire indeed.

As far as the hobby goes, I vote folder. Those are what speak to me, what I seem to obsess over more, what I enjoy carrying the most, and what I reach for most often. I carry a Swisstool (Spirit X black-oxide) daily, and I like it so much that perhaps that is why I have yet to get deeper into multi-tools. I always keep a fixed blade handy, but usually in my pack or vehicle rather than carrying it. This is subject to change however, as I am coming to appreciate fixed blades more, and I am beginning to see the appeal of carrying one daily.

I carry a folder and a multitool most of the time. Sometimes no multitool, but with that said, I chose multitool, as I just find them so helpful. I was gifted a SOG Paratool many many years ago and opened it up and thought is was a silly gadget that would never be used. I tossed it in my work bag and found out how wring I was. Fixing eyeglasses, toilet handles, opening stuff, tightening office chairs, all sorts of uses.

I think there may be a forum issue or something. I nearly posted this thread twice because it didnt show up immediately. I decided to give it a few minutes and up it popped.

As far as fixed blades go, I can totally see gravitating toward those. Especially the micro fixed blades. I never gave neck knife sized fixed blades much thought. I thought they were a bit silly. However, after poking around with this Ferret, I can totally see carrying one as an edc. I took mine off my neck and just kind of dangle it from my 1 o'clock belt loop. It's less than 2" long and has been at the ready for every cutting need I have had the last few days with just a firm tug.

I could almost get by with just this little blade...almost;)

Yep. I think their server slowed down for some reason. There are a slew of double posts.

As time goes on, I've been going to more SAKs or MTs on a regular basis. I always have a MT at work and I use the pliers quite a bit.

In my normal everyday mode folding works best for me. Most of the tasks I have are covered well by a folding 110 or smaller. When I’m out camping, fishing or hunting I prefer a fixed blade. But I always have a folding knife or two on me if I’m dressed. Lol

That is also my ongoing experience with the Condor Compact Kephart (on my belt in factory leather sheath). Been carrying it everyday for the last two months in addition to my SAK. I really don't care for a knife dangling around my neck. Only time I would carry that way is canoeing or kayaking.

Given the choice, fixed blades all day. If it ain’t fixed, it’s broken. :D

This is pretty much how I see it. I have a few great folders but I carry fixed whenever I can or am legally able.
For me, there’s just something about the feel of a good fixed blade in hand that a folder can’t duplicate.

I use all three. But when it comes down to what usually ends up in my pocket, it is generally a single bladed folder.

All three...

I edc a few folders, a fixed blade or two and usually have a Leatherman Wave with me.

If it were a reality to carry and use a fixed blade all the time that would be my preference. I do carry folders everyday and most days a Leatherman multitool but I carry and would choose a fixed whenever possible.

I voted multi tool / sak. My normal carry is a sak and a small pair of pliers along with a locking folder and sometimes a slipjoint traditional. If I could only have one it would be the sak. They are just so handy. It’s not even a tough choice.

I am a "somewhat older" urban home owner who no longer hunts or back packs, and no longer works in construction. I carry a folder of some kind for daily cutting chores.

While I would love to carry a fixed blade everyday, and the practicality and logic of having a multi-tool appeals to me, I will have to go with folder. It's just the most comfortable and easy for me to use. Fixed blades are still not comfortable for me to carry because I don't live in an area that is knife friendly and I don't trust the local cops, my multi-tool is kind of big and bulky and not as quick to whip out as a folding knife.

Would choose a folder if I could only have one. A Leatherman Wave goes with me most of the time as well.
