Which Fallkniven fixed to buy?

I own an S1 and an A1 , both zytel sheaths. Even though I love those knives , I am seriously considering getting a F1. I handled one yesterday, and it fits my hand great, just like the other two do. I read thread after thread, see video after video, report after report how great a bush knife the F1 is in it's own right. Proof enough for me to add it to the tribe. No mods , no grinding, no sheath hassles , no rust, just get it and cut.

I purchased the F1.

I really wanted the Bravo-1, but I think the thumb ramp would have sucked. I was also interested in the Aurora and the Northstar, but both are thinner than the F1. Although it is not sexy at all to me, the F1 looks to be the most durable, and functional.

Now I just gotta figure out how to sharpen it properly. I'm a little confused on how to hand sharpen a convex blade with a whetstone. And as it seems, the F1 isn't a true convex like the bark river, but has a micro bevel? Confusing...

Freq. as to the sharpening. Go to the knivesshipfree.com website. They have an online tutorial video that shows the whole process of sharpening a convex edge. It is really very very easy. I accomplish it with my DC4 and a leather scrap and green compound in abround three minutes most of the time.

You made a good choice in the F1. It'll grow on ya. Mine has. It is one very useful, comfortable, durable blade.

You know, I hate to sound like a fucking redneck...because I'm a city dweller, and you couldn't pay me to buy an american car...but I do feel a little guilty about not buying a USA made Bark River...maybe just because my lady is from Michigan? All I know is that my highest quality knives (Benchmade and ESEE) are American made. Hope this F1 is as tough as the Bark River's, because they look mighty strong.

He he He :D the mods make take exception, but I got a chuckle out of that.

You have made and excellent choice with the F1:thumbup:. It will serve you well. So would have the Bravo 1, or any other Bark River.

You can always add Bark River or other quality blades to your rotation as funds and desire permit.

I just added three more FK's to the collection yesterday, and a new BR about a week ago.

It just goes on.... and on...... and........

Kevin

PS. the sharpening thing really is not that hard. A bit of patience at first until you get your edge profile established, and then refreshes are quick and easy.

Oh well, no offense intended to rednecks, etc. Excuse the vulgarity. It's really too bad they don't make the Bravo-1 without the thumb ramp. Also its odd that is absent from bark river's website...

The only problems with chipping I've seen with the F1 or other Fallkniven knives has been from folks on youtube who have batonned them into rocks. I have had no such problems at all and I use a convex edge with a very fine micro bevel.

Chips could happen to Joe Sixpack if he don't take care of his Fallkniven but a knifenut should not have any chipping problem with the Fällknivens or any similar high quality well heat treated hard steel knives.

Ive heard that the F1 in VG10 steel chips rather easily. Is this true?

any knife can chip if you slam it into a rock.

i heard of one guy complaining that his A2 chipped. turned out, he was chopping through a frozen tree root in frozen ground. just slamming the knife into the dirt like that and any blade will be the worse for wear.

oh, and convex edges are easy to sharpen. a little practice and you'll be fine.

I don't think the A1 or A2 is the best choice as they are made of lamin VG10, Fox cutlery Italy'' jungle'' model can be an alternative .It is made of whole N690steel .
