Which folder for military purposes?

Dark Ops!:thumbup::thumbup:

Just kidding,:p We need to know how the knife would be used to help you make a good choice. But almost anything by spyderco, benchmade, RAT cutlery, or even mircotech would work. Or you can head over to the custom section, I'm sure there are plenty of makers that would offer a military discount.

Holy crap!!
So many answers and opinions! I didn't expect that much:eek:

Alright then...
The budget is $100-$150 depending on what of my needs it fulfils.
As erlier mentioned, I purchased a Jackhammer and I'll have it as "main" blade for fighting, self-defence, "sentry removal" and similar...And as everybody knows, JH has plain edge.

A folder that I need will mainly be used for cuting wires, rope, straps, textile and other things/situatins that may occur within service.
I was thinking due to JH's plain edge, I should need a folder with partially serrated edge. Or shouldn't I?

So considering the budget, my needs and other things within service what do you guys recommend by your expirience?

I like my leatherman because it has the two blades, I use the plain blade most of the time, and the serrated for food.

As far as military folders go,only two brands come to mind at the time...Strider & Zero Tolerance 0200,0300 or 0500

Edited to add-I didn't see your budget limits.I'd go with the ZT0200 or the MUDD

I've never been in the military, but it seems you're looking for a "Tank" of a folder & both fit the bill.

Accoring to the folks I have been in contact with who are stationed, multitools are the most useful and favorite knife by far.

Both of them look good! It only seems like 0200 is little to big, if I may say so. I mean, I allready have a 6" blade. I would like something smaler, like Mudd, for instance...

What do you think of serrations on a folder?

Fully serrated or none at all...although there are a few models that can get away with a CE IMO.

For your budget, get a couple of combo or plain-edged Enduras (one for carry, one left at camp for backup).

Use them, abuse them, loose them or toss them, no regrets, great performance.

Knives in the military will be cutting food, wire and plastic, opening crates and boxes, doing some prying, digging up dirt and mud, scrapping stuff off or pasting stuff on, passed around as needed by all the guys and galls in the platoon or crew. Blades have to be on the larger side to be of any use, speed of use and ease of deployability is a major consideration, maintenance will have to be minimal, resharpening has to be easy. Run them under some water, shake them off, and strop them often in your BDUs.

VG10 is a great all-rounder, and FRN means high resistance showing minimal damage. You can go year after year through hard jobs, and function will not be affected.

The Endura is a workhorse. It may not be as tough as some specialty knives costing five times more, but five Enduras will outlast anything in your lifetime.

I like the Presidio. Other Benchmade Black Class knives would also suit. Black class knives are designed specifically for law enforcement/military

Swiss Army Knives are not called Swiss ARMY KNIVES for no reason.
The new lockblades with single-handed opening features are priced right and highly dependable.
Besides, the reputation on these Swiss made products "in the real world (where $#* happens)" are second to none if not legendry.

champion or deluxe tinker would fit your need! combat knife in my book would be your rifle or handgun unless you are rambo! no purpose for the so called tactical knife when your enemy is cocked and locked!

SOG Elite (Spec II or Pentagon II). Blade is thick, the lock is undeniably secure and strong. The Pentagon version has a sturdy tip for stabbing, partially serrated for cuts and made of VG-10 steel. The bigger one is a good deal for the money.
