WHich is more important?

I have made a very tight weave basket, small albeit, and sealed it with pitch. I have also made small bark bowls, stitched with overlapping seams, and sealed with pitch. This is easier, but requires decent bark. Birch works, some other smooth barks work as well.

A fire really is the most important thing in making a water container from natural materials. Even if I had a skin bag, I would use rock rather than hold it over a fire. Less likely to burn parts above the water line.

**Warning** Do not heat rocks that have been in the presence of water! They can explode! Only heat boiling rocks to 250 to 350 degrees! If you drop a piece of grass on the rock, and it charcoals or burns, it is too hot! When done like this, you _should_ be able to re-use boiling rocks, but there is still a hazard involved.

A water container (Such as a coffee can) that can be heated over a fire, should it spring a leak, could be easily plugged with clay or other materials, or if the leak is unfixable, you can fold the metal into a smaller water container. If I need to wait till I catch a rabbit or something, and skin and scrape it, to procure water, I'll be without water for quite some time... I think I'd prefer a pot and a metal match to a knife and a metal match. Maybe I can add some apple seeds, have people sing a song about me... _The Ballad of Stryver Appleseed_
