Great topic and have enjoyed reading a lot the responses. For me, the query is a bit like the greatest NBA players of all time (since we would have to pick one from SY, SW, and B). Easy to go with MJ there, although I think a strong argument could be made for the Big O, especially taking into consideration differences in the eras). But it is hard to really compare a big post player (PF/C) versus a point guard versus a versatile swing player (SF/SG). Each had very different functions, tasks, physiques (usually), and skill sets, equalling different expectations. Of course, great players are versatile to a degree regardless of position (example: The Dream was way up in steals for several years, quite an accomplishment for a C). But, it is fun to debate, so...

I am sticking to SW, because I just like those knives better for what I do. I have quite a few Busses, and they are high quality, but the really seem to be focused on really thick blades, not my particular focus. For mu uses, I like the steel better than INFI. And, I have only had one SY, a Scrapper 4. Great blade, but didn't seem to do anything my Coot or Bog Dog couldn't. Out the SW, my favorite big un, from a BR, a BG, a Rat Mastiff (my first), and an SBR is..the SBR, which I truly regret selling. Handles like the wind, slices like lightening, chips like thunda. Res C rules on a big un, and the knife is just plain sexy to boot.

That would be my favorite PF/C, big guy. My PG? Had a Safari Skinner, but not enamored of the blade design. Had an Inficoot, and several HRLM and a 2nd gen HR, plus a couple more I don't remember with clarity, but most were just too "heavy duty" for a small blade for me personally. Would love to get a Solution and thin it a bit and change the grind, because it looks like a great blade. If I can, may change my mind, but right now, the small blade (a little long for small at around 4") is the D2 Bog Dog (if I ever find it again). Handles well, good steel, well designed grips, good blade and edge geometry for my uses for that length blade.

And the swing position, the intermediate do-it-all? The Ratmandeux LE, slightly customized. What a blade! It is a knife for cutting, not chopping, but I have every faith in it being able to make a shelter and split wood in a fix. Slices very well, great for cooking chores and maybe not a dedicated skinner, but will do the work. And, I never want to see, much less be in, another knife fight (that's why God made the .45), but it feels like made-for-combat in the hand, and the guards would protect your flesh in a fix. Right now, my all-time favorite blade. Again, after my CT arrives (my first) I will change my mind, but we will see.

Hope no offense taken at my liberties with the specs for purposes of playing with a clean conscience, and I will try to add pics of my RMDeux later (and my BD, if I find it this weekend!).

I gotta agree with the RMDeux comment.

It's a great all around knife. I can chop with it, baton with it, slice with it, fight with it (although not recommended), etc.

I like the bigger knives of both SW and Busse, but they just seem impractical for my uses, camping and other-outdoor related activities. They're too heavy to lug around on long hikes up steep mountains. Sure, the bigger knives are a lot of fun to swing around, but then your hand gets tired and you're like, oh great, now what do I do?

So, the RMDx is quickly becoming my favorite knife (although, I'd still like to get my hands on a Busse ZTBMe)

Busse: Team Gemini Light Brigade - because I love the thought behind the design, it looks awsome and it's Daryl's knife on The Walking Dead.
SRKW: Ratmandu CG - Feels great in the hand and it's the perfect go to knife.
SYKC: Military Regulator - Don't own any Scrap Yard knives (will in the future), just thought this one looks awesome.

:-D

In order
Chopwieler
Ratmandu
Vex

What can I say I love the Rats :)

Honestly I hate res-c so the dogs are out and the only Busses I have any desire to own are the Ergo series so my favorite Busses are NO/e SH/e and BA/e in that order.

My top picks:D:thumbup:
1. Chopweiler
2. Chopweiler
3. Chopweiler
Number 4 is a dead nuts tie between a Chopweiler and a Chopweiler!

I came late to this thread, but here's mine:

Busse - Torn between my two all-time favorite users - A ZT NOe and an Active duty in any of it's thinner versions. The ZT NOe is frankly the largest, most heavy Busse I will wear on my person, and the AD is the handiest little Busse. Simply because of versatility, I will go with the ZT NOe, but it is no trouble to carry both.

Swamp Rat - Rat Trap

Scrap Yard - Don't own one.

If you really like Chopweilers, then just come out and say it. Quit beating around the bush! :D

Nice to dust off an older thread.

T-- that INFI folder is still sweet as candy.

Ok...to the question of best and why...

Busse: My opinion ties on so many because of the huge varity in designs... I'll place the MOAB and the NMFSHLE atop the list but TB, ASH1 and NMSFNOLE FFG are not very far behind.

Swamp Rat: The RMD is an excellent and capable, generally easy to carry knife. And can only be bested by the N2K RMD variant concept built upon the existing SE version. M9LE gets an honorable mention, and so many more can easily make this list.

Scrap Yard: 1311, winner for a big goto user and the 711 (or older Camp Tramp) is an excellent campsite companion. I really like my War Dog and YKLE a lot too.
