Which is the best sitcom on TV?

Black Books - I have both series on DVD

I'm also a late blooming Sienfeld fan. I hated it when it was first shown then it grew on me.

Does anybody remember the Chris Elliot show, "Get a Life"? The one where he was a 35 year old paperboy? Side-splittingly funny, so naturally it was cancelled to make room for more Urkel and 3rd Rock from the Sun uber-crap.
Sounds like the same idea as "Open All Hours", starring Ronnie Barker and David Jason, where David plays Granville, the delivery boy in his 30's(?). Anything with Ronnie Barker in is pretty good (Porridge, The 2 Ronnies).

Andrew.

I can't believe nobody has said this one yet...Everybody Loves Raymond. By far the funniest sitcom currently showing in my opinion.

Ming65,

How could I have forgotten Black Books? I've also got the DVDs. Genius.

Also Spaced.

From America: Scrubs, currently Will & Grace.

How? I'd say it's very easy given the state of your kitchen. Why right now you are probably eating scrambled eggs out of a shoe! With a comb! :D

Trailer Park Boys.

Language is a little strong (okay, ALOT strong) for family viewing. Very funny though.

No! A ham sandwich! With a pickle on it!

The state of today's television programming is pretty sad. The only show I watch with any regularity now is MONK. That dude cracks me up.

Family Guy & The Simpsons are in a category unto themselves, along w/ Futurama, etc.
M.A.S.H remains a favorite- it has incredible staying power.
No one has mentioned Northern Exposure... that was a hoot. Very subtle, but very funny. Coupling is great- as is/was Cold Feet. If you're including those, then place my vote for the Blackadder series as probably the best of the lot.

It's about time someone mentioned MONK. He's my current favorite. I can't wait to see Friday's episode. :D I love that commercial he does promoting the show. I think it's with the guy from the "Dead Zone?" "Do you have to actually touch them? Can you just linger? What about if you poke? Can you poke them?" (not an exact quote). :D

Here it is:

If we're going to go "all time" then we need to mention The Honeymooners, the show that about half the sitcoms ever produced were trying to be. Gruff but loveable working-class man and his wacky best friend screw-up while trying to get ahead, with his hot and overly tolerant wife usually pulling his butt out of the fire.

How could I have forgotten The Honeymooners? :o :o Jackie Gleason and Art Carney were absolute card carrying geniuses.

There's one episode where they're getting ready for a costume party, and Ralph comes out wearing a costume Alice put together for him - a grass skirt and a top hat (actually a witch doctor costume, but it's not readily apparent).

He comes out with that expression on his face, and with exquisite comic timing he says to Alice, "Alright... (pause) WHAT AM I???"

That was the first time I ever sprayed chocolate milk out of my nose. The guy had a real gift.

Soap
Night Court
Barney Miller
Get Smart..."Missed me by that much!"
Taxi
Everybody Loves Raymond
Sledge Hammer..."Trust me, I know what I'm doing!"
Wings
Married with Children
Just Shoot Me
not a sitcom but may fit in, Columbo ;)

Great thread. Do "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Arrested Development" count as sitcoms? My current favorites.

I also like Frasier, but my all-time favorite is Married...With Children. Other favorite sitcoms of mine include Spin City and Scrubs.
