Which knife did you *use* first this year?

Let's leave out dinner table knives.

Looking back all the way to yesterday, I carried a KaBar pocketknife: the old heavy "boy scout" type, with one cutting blade, a can opener, a bottle opener, and an awl.

I don't think I *used* it, though. That honor has to go to today's pocketknife: a small Uncle Henry/Scrade pocketknife with one cutting blade and one fingernail file.

I used it to open a box at the post office.

I don't actually know the official names for either of these knives.

What was the first knife you used this year? I'm curious to see how many people used a regular pocketknife first.

BTW, Happy New Year everyone! And thank you Bladeforums.

I cut open and collapsed a lot of boxes yesterday during a purge of the house that was mostly just precision cutting of tape. I used my small Spyderco Centofante for everything. My PJ Tomes pearl lockback with a 420V blade stayed in my pocket.

BM KOTM 940. It does lots of work for me. It should be a collectible, but I love the color and the knife so it makes its way to daily carry status often.

My combat letter opener. Microtech Socom Elite Auto.

It is as natural for a human to carry a knife, though one may have no immediate plans for cutting anything, as it is for a literate person to carry a pen, with or without any immediate plans for writing, or to wear a watch, whether or not one has an appointment to keep.

My Spyderco Police has performed light duty cutting hay bale strings, and slicing feed sacks.(who uses the strings when you can use your blade?)

Used a Simonich Talonite Cetan to cut up some steaks yesterday.

I used my Cold Steel Medium plain Clip-Point Voyager (one of my "carry knives") to open a package that I received in this mornings' mail. (Dang, that sucker IS SHARP!.

First knife use of 2001 for me was my SAK Nomad ... The corkscrew popped open a bottle of Cabin Fever (an awesome local blush dessert wine) for milady and me. Then ... nevermind

I needed my Gerber AR 3.0 to open a beeflog and a block of cheese...the kitchen scissors were among the missing.

I used a Tekna Dive knife to open a box... That is what I basically use for my everyday knife. It fits very nice on my wheelchair!

I know this sounds like a "fish that got away" story, but it's true. Yesterday I found a mutant lemon on my lemon tree. It was big. Real big. It's about the size of two grapefruits. Hard to believe, but true. I took out my 710 Axis and cut it off the tree, before it grew legs and a body and came to terrorize my family

What is this existential quandry all about anyway?

Used my BM 710SBT to cut the leaking heater hose off of my Son's car yesterday, and scratched the coating! Oh well.

My new 710HS got its first workout, today, opening dozens of thick cardboard boxes (cutting three sides of the top), along with plastic wrap, and tape. It's filthy, covered with dirt, and goes "crunch" when I work the lock. Gotta go clean it.

I used my Lcc to open toys and bust up some boxes after Santa visited my house

Small plain Sebenza to open mail today and yesterday to cut wrapping from around a rolled up area rug.
