The Uk Penknife or Caly 3. Which will last longer the back lock or the slipit locks? I want your opinion

They will both last long enough for you to give them to your grand kids, Dont worry about it.

Personally I would take the Caly3 over the UKPK any day. The UKPK is a great knife don't get me wrong but the glass smooth opening of the Caly3 is just a joy to use. Functionally they are almost the same except the lock or lack thereof and S30V has a slight edge (haha) in edge retention. Either knife will easily last a lifetime.

Clay 3 is one of the best knives spyderco makes. I gave one to my Dad and he loves it!! Made a knife guy out of him overnight.

Depends on what you want in a knife. For a lightweight EDC used in an office setting or something like that the UKPK is perfect. You say you want to do some carving, I'd definitely get the Caly 3 for that. If you want to use the UKPK safely, you should be having the index finger in the choil at all times which could get uncomfortable if you're doing whittling or carving. With the Caly 3 you can do reverse grip or really any sort of grip without worry.

Both knives are great. I have slight preference to Caly3 because of lock. But I love my orange UKPK as well.

I would go for the ZDP Caly 3 personally.

On a personal note, when traveling I shave with my UKPN. Really there are no bad choices in the models you are considering.

Best wishes,

Doug

i would definetly go with a knife that actually locks for carving. plus the caly3 is proven by most everyone that has it.

UKPK is superior

Better blade steel, S30V
Thinner
Lighter
Usually less expensive
More colors available
Made in the USA

Being thinner, lighter, made in USA, or having color choices doesn't really help him with his needs.

I prefer the UKPK, but either will work fine. I really like them both but I prefer the UKPK because of the S30V. This is one question were you really can't make a bad choice because they are both excellent. As far as carving with a slipjoint just don't be dumb, people have been carving and whittling with slipjoints for generations.

Spyderco's quality is so high that the question "Which is better?" is almost irrelevant. They are ALL good, and it's more a matter of what will fit your needs, what appeals to your sense of taste, and what feels right in your hand.

As far as which will last longer, I have no doubt that with proper use and care, either one will outlast you, your children, and your children's children, unless you drop it in a volcano.

Don't drop it in a volcano.

If I was limited to selecting one of the two knives you mentioned, I would unhesitatingly pick the Caly 3. My favorite Spyderco in the same general category would be the Sage.

I would choose the Caly 3 in CF. I did and I love it. One of the best Spyderco makes. Other than the stretch 4, my favorite EDC.

If you're not legally restricted from carrying a knife with a lock, then I'd get the one with a lock; Caly 3. I'd go for the G-10/VG-10 version. The scales are grippier, VG-10 is easy to sharpen (while still having excellent edge retention) and, it's less expensive.
