Which knife is the best you have ever used?

It has taken me a long time to get a CQC-10 because it's pretty ugly as far as overall looks go, but a good local deal popped up so I pulled the trigger.

So far it's incredibly versatile and has not left my pocket. Function over fashion.

If my "best" is the one I use the most, it would be a Victorinox Adventurer (111mm slide lock model). But I don't consider it the best. I have no idea which one is my best knife. I just bought four new knives... are any of them the best? I'm not looking for the best anymore.

Maybe the TA Davison slip joint I bought last year, perhaps? It is the most expensive folder I own.

I assume you mean function wise and not price wise.
Short answer : it doesn't exist.
Long answer :
A combination of these three . . . stack 'em up, jump on 'em and that's the best knife I have ever used.
Until then . . .
This one, the Spyderco Para 2 with M4 blade steel, a stock off the shelf knife that cuts for ever with slight touch up every month or so . . . it functions perfectly it's a permanent fixture in my work pants pocket.

As far as blade shape . . . FOR ME . . . and handle shape (for the most part) . . . a knife that makes me smile every time I use it . . . if it had M4 it could almost be my only work knife (love that compression lock on the Para 2 though).
I had to heavily mod it though so maybe it doesn't fit into your question.
Love this thing. Cold Steel Ti Lite IV in CTS-XHP blade full flat 1.9mm at the spine.

And finally if the blade pivot was robust (it isn't), if it were M4 blade steel heat treated by Spyderco, it isn't . . . then for it's extreme lightness and pocket friendliness and handle texture and shape (even better than the Ti Lite . . . then this would CERTAINLY be the best knife in the world for me period.
Well . . . throw in the compression lock too . . . though the liner lock in titanium works perfectly every time for me. So not a big deal really.
Boker Brad Zinker Urban Trapper with mas grande handle scale mod.

For long term use comfort and cutting it's a toss up for me between the Carothers HDFK and Survive 2nd gen 4.1. (The 4.7 is pretty nice too.) The steel is wonderful but the handle ergos make them ideal for me. The little one from JK knives is wowing me so far, looking forward to more knives from him.

Ya know, whenever these "best" threads come around, I am left scratching my head for what the heck the OP means.

For instance, if I want to slice an apple, the best is my New West Knifeworks, Damascus bladed utility knife. For pocket knives, my Opinel no.10 Effile has no competition.
But for camping, my BK16 is the king of the hill.
If I want to chop vines/grasses, my Tramonita machete is best.

See, each task has it's own "best" and nobody is using a kitchen knife to do yard work, just like nobody (at least no sane person) is using a kukri to slice apples...

I agree. Not to sound snobish, but that is such a beginner question and I am tired of hearing it asked. Stop asking for the "Best" knife solutions. The right tool, for the right job. It's like asking what is the best tool in your tool box? A hammer or pliers or screwdriver? A little wisdom for you, Nothing, no one, no where, no how, and no what will work for every situation. Once you realize that, you will learn to adapt with life in whatever it throws at you.

The best is the one in my pocket today...Spyderco Slysz Bowie.
Okay, yes...the scales are conformed nicely to fit my hand...but the scales are rather slippery. I will have to roughen up those scales a little and then it's perfect.
This is my 3rd one...bought barely carried on the Exchange. I will keep this one...I thimk...

Not to be too contrary but that is a tired excuse to answer anything. "What's the best knife you've used?" It's a subjective question, answer it as you'd like. Or don't. It's not a beginner anything, in my opinion. I have some great knives but I love hearing what others prefer.

I'm tired of the lazy answers to these questions, but to each their own.

How about what I thought was the best knife ever when I lusted after it as a kid ?

It's a good knife and I love it, as all of my users but there really is no " best knife ever ".
For some there probably a best for this or best for that, but as others have pointed out theres really no best.

Fair enough. I will answer the lazy question. The Serge Panchenko Orbit. Front flipper, new locking mechanism that locks the blade closed. I am not a fan of the Axis lock but I love this lock. Solid but no blade play.

Yes . . . I was thinking "Oh just relax".
It's not a big technical question; it's just what did you use that you really liked a lot better than similar knives. Not what knife will take out a small tree and then do brain surgery ? . . . in that order.

Yep !
Make it a little (a lot) lighter . . . give the scales some texture . . .
and
guess what is winging it's way to my mail box as we speak (type / read )?
Buck 110 Folding Hunter LT !
Will it knock everything else out of my pocket ?
Coubee . . . coubee
If you catch me at the grinder taking a millimeter off the blade thickness think nothing of it . . . it's just my little uncontrollable, obsessive, obnoxious, habit.

PS: hahaha . . . gulp . . . that would mean that the best knife I have ever used costs all of $28.
It could happen . . . still though
there is that M4 fixation of mine.

Like the song said :
Only you can make all this world seem right
. . .
Only you and you alone can thrill me like you do
. . .
. . .
. . .
When you hold my hand I understand the magic that you do
You're my dream come true, . . .

I've been carrying two bladed Barlows for about 60 years, so...yeah, I like them a lot:

And medium stockmans for almost 50 years:

But when I tried the Churchills, they became my new best user knife:
