Which knife is this

Here is a closer look at the blade stamping.

Looks like a fake of a Ti version of the Tomahawk to me. Wrong logo, wrong color fittings, wrong clip color/type, wrong steel type and wrong blade detailing.

Why fake a Chinese knife? Because the Ti versions of the Tomahawk sell for $164 (VG10) to $225 (M390). Only the CHEAPER versions of the Tomahawk ($59) made with G10 scales use D2 steel.

This is what the Ti version of the M390 Tomahawk really looks like. The differences are obvious. Not a big deal if you've only got $20 in the knife. Just don't represent it as a real Artisan Cutlery knife.

Here's a link to a video of the knife that clearly shows the details: Artisan Cutlery Tomahawk Ti M390 Video. Tried to embed it but couldn't do so.

You can find more images/info here: Artisan Cutlery Tomahawk Knives For Sale at the Knife Center (a BF Sponsor).

BTW: I was an early fan of Artisan Cutlery knives. Bought 5 around 3yrs ago and still own 2 -- a Shark & Waistline in G10/D2, which are still 2 of my favorite knives., regardless of the brand.

Was never interested in the more expensive knives that they started to make in Ti & M390/S35VN/V10 because the G10/D2 knives are so well made and such a great value.

If you google "FY Knives" you'll get a lot of hits for global, online marketplace that sells a lot of counterfeits and clones.

In terms of damage to the industry, there's not much difference between a counterfeit and a clone. They both suck.

I will NEVER represent a clone as a real one. I will never own or buy a fake. If it was marked Artisan Cutlery I would have NEVER BOUGHT IT. It is very well made though. I have done a large search for this stamping with no luck yet. I WILL NEVER OWN A KNIFE WITH A FAKE STAMPING AND THINK THEY NEED THROWN IN THE TRASH! At least the company who stamped this put their own stamp on it. Kevin

But they are still copying another company's design, and therefore taking money away from the legitimate company.

Confused by this post.

You asked "Which knife is this" and I (along w/others) gave you our opinions.

No one has suggested that you have misrepresented the origin of the knife. However, fact is, it seems to be a fake (or at least a clone) of an Artisan Cutlery Tomahawk.

What you do w/the knife is entirely up to you but (as you should already know as a long standing member of the forum) BF prohibits the sale of fakes or clones of any knife on the Exchange.

BTW, I often use the words "fake" and "clone" loosely and interchangeably, even though they are definitely different. A "fake" being something being passed off as the original, while a "clone" would be a copy of something but not represented to actually be the original,

So, it would be more accurate to say that the knife you have is just a "clone." Whether FY is a recognized "brand" of a legitimate knife maker authorized to sell a clone of the Tomahawk is another matter.

However, as unwisefool unwisefool notes, the economic effect of selling a fake or a clone is essentially the same, if the company making the fake or clone has NOT been licensed or authorized by the company that created the original design for the knife for any fakes/clones that it sells.

And, if you want to establish whether the knife you have has been licensed/authorized for sale, I suggest that you contact Artisan Cutlery and just ask them directly whether it is or not.

I may do that. I would never put this up for sale on here. But I am sure having fun with this thread. Some of you may be misunderstanding me. I did not purchase this knife as an Artisan Cutlery and do not want to pass it on as one. Only thing I was trying to see is who actually made it. THAT IS ALL. Can not find a company at all with FY logo on a knife. I have been collecting knives for around 50 years so I do know my stuff a little. Thanks to all that replied and if anyone figures out who FY is let me know. Only FY that I could think of was Fury and they put their name on theirs. Thanks. Kevin

Help me out guys. I am crazy today. What knife and brand is this. Thank You! Kevin

Uhhhh.....
I got it off a guy who I know well who got it off a guy who had been collecting knives. I only have $20 in it and it is very well made and I know knives very very well. It is made well enough to be an Artisan Cutlery and we know it is not a fake but just don’t know the stamping. Kevin

I don't believe anyone is misunderstanding. Nobody accused you of purposely buying a fake, copy, or clone.
You asked who made the knife, and posters said that it looks like a knock-off of an Artisan Knives design.

That kind of knife is generally frowned upon here, but since you spent your $20 and like the knife, why not use it until it falls apart? Then replace it with an authentic version, if you want. Enjoy.

I think I am going to use it as a package opener 😁
I hate putting a mark on my nice knives
Also when I posted it was not a fake it was because it was not marked Artisan Cutlery. That is what I meant by that statement. Thanks Guys. Kevin

What are your nice knives?

I have a nice collection. Lots of old Case xx knives. Also have knives like a mint AD10, some Alan Davis customs, Hinderer XM18 ect…

I use all my knives. I'm sorry you got a fake or whatever, but just use it as your "Well I probably should use a knife for this but..." knife.

Seems a waste not use any of them and rely on $20 knives of dubious origin. My CRK is beat up, and I love it.

Don’t get me wrong. I knew it was an off brand. As for carrying. I carry a Spyderco Delica, Cold Steel Recon 1 satin S35V , Alan Davis Custom made to my specs. I just bought that knife for the heck of it and knew it was some off brand and not a Artisan Cutlery. It is very well made though. I will also be carrying a AD20.5 when the place I get my knives from gets them. Kevin

Do not ask about the custom clips on the Cold Steel knives because I am Sworn to secrecy 😊
