Which locking system is safe to carry loose in the pocket ?

I couldn’t get my Demkos AD20S to open even with violent- and I mean violent - force. The AD20.5’s will though with some force. Still doesn’t make them unsafe. I’m confident there’s really no way they would open inside my pocket. Can’t imagine how on earth they would.

Like I said earlier though, Hinderers with weak detents are a different story, and I can guarantee they will. Don’t ask me how I know.
 
Regarding Spydercos opening accidently in the pocket, I just tried to shake open my Sage 5 LW and Bodacious (with a LOT of force in the shake) and I can't do it ... I know I can do it on my Manix 2XL, but that's expected since it has no detent.

Are you sure you've got authentic Spydercos?

On non-locking ones, friction folders may open in the pocket.

I think assisted openers would also fall in this category. I’ve never had one open myself, but then I seldom carry any assisted openers. Conversely, I recently got a Kershaw Leek that I forgot has a lock that keeps it closed, and I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t flip open. 🫪

If it's any consolation, I could only "shake" open my G 10 Military - the blade on my titanium Military wouldn't budge.

It's really not an issue I am concerned with.

Really anything with a solid detent should be safe, it might be more useful to state which ones to avoid. I would avoid crossbar/axis locks, button locks with mushy detent(looking at you Arno Bernard Turaco), anything assisted or automatic with a button actuation.

I have a sample size of 1, but my Turaco is fantastic, and I cannot shake it open. That thing is smoooooooth. I do carry it in the leather pocket slip, but not for lack of trust.

I'm left handed. So I'm a detent snob. If I can shake a knife open, and it's righty only, I won't own it. Since I sometimes carry righty knives in my left pocket tip up, I have a rigorous shake test. My Koenig Arius', Arno Bernard iMambas, Grimsmo Norseman, and Hawk Talons all pass with flying colors.

One model I would be 100% confident in carrying loose in the pocket is the Chris Reeve Sebenza. Strong detent, with no flipper and slow smooth action. I'm admittedly a CRK fan boy, but a small Sebenza sounds like just the ticket for the OP.
