Think I'm gonna spring for a machete I'm looking for something portable with a blade 12 inches or under I'm currently looking at an ontario 12 inch camper or econo camper, The Kabar cutlass mchete, or the S&W brush hog just wanted to get some feed back...Thanks

The 12" Ontario seems to be the most popular choice these days, it certainly is priced right.

i use a 5 dollar harbor frieght that i redid the edge on with a bench stone wheel grinder some files and a medium grit stone

I like the look of the Ka-Bar,I wouldn't think you could go far wrong with that !!!

I like My 12 inch ontario and Kabar products have been good to me I really don't trust S&W edged tools. I have seen problems with their folders.

Hey Guys..

I have a 18" Ontario..

A Hell of a nice blade for $21USD

12" Ontario is not a bad choice. If you get one with a D guard, you may want to consider cutting it off. I saw one for 21 bucks shipped on another forum. Not a bad price if you don't mind an orange handle. Comes with a sheath too.

i'd get the orange molded D-guard handle. it'd go well with my orange mora and yellow sak.

Any Cal., Do you have info on that Corona knife in your pic (model #, where to buy, price, link, etc)? Thanks in advance.

I have the 12" Ontario Cutlass, the heavy duty 12" machete. I have convexed the edge and sanded down the handle. It is a great tool both at home and in the field. I am a hunter and carry it on scouting trips for clearing debris and shooting lanes. I also use it as home. Below is a link to a helpful website.

I can't believe I'm the first vote for a 14" Tramontina bolo.

I know, I know "It's not 12" or under so it is longer than what you want" but its a HELL of a blade for an unreal price.

I was concerned about the thickness, its kinda thin, but I figured, for the 7 bucks I paid for it, who cares if it breaks. Well, I've had it for 2 seasons now and beat the tar out of it, chopping, batoning, fire poker, spatula, shovel, wiffle ball bat, that thing does it all.

I have the 18" Ontario, and like it a lot. No experience with the 12" although I'm sure it's a good performer.

Cheap machetes are great tools for modding up as well, I want to put a squared edge on my tramontina for a chisel/scraper thingy.

I remember doing that to a cheapie I bought for 6 bucks, But it was more of a mayjorly angled tanto.

I ahve had excellent luck with Ontarios,Martindales,Barteaux, and Tramontinas. I prefer my modded out 12in Ontario. Carries well and cuts great! Works way out of it's price range and I like the blade shape. I have given mine green micarta scales,a convexed edge, kydex sheath, and squared up the spine for scraping. Politics aside I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new Cold Steel 12in machetes. They have a clip point and a spear point coming up that really appeal to me.

Who else here thinks Bills a jerk?........Anyone........Anyone?

That thing is SWEET Bill, that would do the job.

For the money. The 12" Ontario (2) is hard to beat. The Martindale Golok (1) is an excellent limber and the Ka-Bar Cutlass Machete (6) has the best grip. If money is no object, let me know and I can have a Mach~Axe (5) delivered for $125- $150.
