which machete??

Yes of course we do understand that the cut resistant gloves aren't intended for knife fights but, most knives aren't intended to cut though concrete block or 2X4s either. The point of the test was to gauge the level of protection. They are excellent in the folder test, only having sustained one 1/2 cut from a stabbing out of 12 attacking moves. The machete results prove that indeed, the current gloves will not protect enough for so heavy a blade and so much energy. Actually, we're working with Hatch to develop a SS weave pattern that will protect in fights. With Machete use as a weapon rising, officers will be glad to know that thier patrol/search gloves will stand up to the new surge in blade use by criminals. Workers that use machetes or other large blades will also benefit from occupational versions of the new gloves.

wow, theres a few cool companies i learned about here. especially barteaux. nice stuff for cheap.
though, those cut proof gloves.. im not sure you understand what theyre trying to do. you didnt prove any shortcomings, as they arent made for knife fights lol. theyre search gloves man. for when you are pattin down people, that may have sharps, as in knives or needles. no gloves like that, are meant to be truly slice proof.
the only gloves are are cut proof, to a point, are the chain mail gloves ya wear, when slicing ham on the slicer.

Re: cut proof gloves-
I think something like that has been tried in the past...

A coworker is from mexico. His dad has a big ranch over there. He says that where he came from every one carries a machete and a gun. His uncle got in a fight and ended up putting the other guy in the hospital. From what he says it sound like a wild west out there. But then he moved to CA in 1981. So it might have calmed down out there. As a 12 year old his uncle started to teach him how to fight with a machete. He showed me a few moves and let me tell you its deadly in the right hands. His dad always carried a machete and a colt 1911. yes he came from a rich family.

I actually have been trying very hard to get one of the 14" Blade Linders as you show- only Amazon carries them regularly.
SASHA- Machete's are amazingly effective as weapons- mostly because they are lighter blades= greater velocity and thus, power on impact. In fact, I downloaded an entire tutorial of machete fight moves- pretty impressive. My interest in them is really only for bushcraft use though.I've earned my stripes felling a ton of bamboo and saplings.

From where did you download the tutorial?

Thanks in advance!

Hey CitizenQ,

Do you have a link to those Linders? I've never heard of them before, but they look pretty impressive.

I've read that the knock against them are that (1) the stainless doesn't hold an edge as weill as some of the other steels and (2) that they are heavy, so tough to swing all day. But indeed they can pack a wallop. I bought the 18-inch and the 10-inch at http://www.WorldKnives.com but I dont see the 18 at WorldKnives.com anymore. The other knock is that they are hard to find and -- indeed -- a Google search for Linder Convex Machete" turned up only a few links, not many of which appear to sell Linders. Maybe 1sks could order it for you? Last, this article is interesting.

Thanks CQ.

I checked for the 10", which is the one I would be interested in, but they seem to be out of stock. My son goes to Germany on business, a couple of times a year - I'll see if he might be able to turn one up.

an officer needs machete proof gloves? dam, i would hope the officer has enough sense to pull his gun, before a machete gets close enough to his hands to cut him lol.

I'll avoid a direct response since doing so might constitute a 'telegraph' to the BG's. Plenty of officers are assaulted before they have a chance to whip out their guns- usually by ANOTHER BG from behind:cool:

I agree. However, if youre getting ambushed by a machete, im not sure a 'pair of gloves' are going to be doing you any good at that point lol. slice proof or not. like a bullet proof vest, when you get your hands nicked by a machete, sure, they may not slice, but youll break them nonetheless. Though, I doubt the perpetrator will be trying to slice your hands man.

I have to tell ya. Anything that gives you the edge in terms of protection is worth a try. If you think slash resistent gloves are ineffective against slashes, you should see how vulnerable bare hands are :D I see your point though. machete's develop phenomenal bone breaking power. I know- cause before I properly sharpened mine, it would break & shred bamboo, even if it couldn't clean slice it like now.

I gave Cold steels 12" Kukri machete a tameshigiri work out a while back and it preformed surprisingly well for such a light blade. Although the chiburi was awkward and iai nearly impossible with the sheath provided.

im not saying no to the gloves, as i think theyre still a great idea but, against a machete, i think if you cant get to your sidearm quick enough, youre going to lose like a mother******. and quick too. I know that most cops cant just up and shoot a would be attacker, because of all these frivolous laws, but, if i came up to a scene, and a guy had a machete in his hand, and i pulled my gun, and told him to drop it, and he took a step torwards me, id shoot him without thinking. theres no WAY id entangle with a drug crazed guy and a machete lol. those things are super dangerous. gave my buddy an old legitimus a long time ago, to cut some weeds in his backyard. well, hes a little nutty.. and was sorta having 'too much fun' if you will with this thing. an old (thin walled though) iron pipe was sticking out of the ground camouflaged inside the weeds, and he cracked that pipe with a swing of that machete. not bad lol.

I'm seeing gaping holes in my machete arsenal here.

Linders 14" looks great, and I realize I need to get an Ontario.

That Mach~Axe is really cool too. I remember seeing another post about the design.
