Which of your knives can you get the sharpest?

I think there are a lot of factors that influence how sharp you can get a knife, regardless of what you are using to sharpen it. For me at least. Some knives, ususally the ones with thinner blades just get sharper.

For me the two that I own are my S30V Leek and my Sypederco Centofante III (VG-10).

So which ones is it for you guys?

Probably my 819SS Buck S30
Once I finished what the boys at the custom shop started, the thing is like a scalpel...

ZDP-189 Calypso Jr is the sharpest tool in the shed, hands-down.

Closely followed by my BM710 HS, and Griptilian in D2.

S30V PMillie..gets sharp real easily for me

Yes, I agree, Paramil gets sharp pretty easy too, but not like the Leek or the Centofante.

I find that the easiest sharpest is my Opinel- by far. I put pretty much the same toothy edge on most of my knives though- as users, if they all had the better than scalpel edge some prefer I would have to sharpen them way too often, I like a sharp and long lasting edge over a super duper I-can-cut-through time edge.

My Spyderco Toad with it's very thin blade is easy to sharpen and gets (literally) as sharp as a razor... My Cricket and Wegner Jr. folder also take wicked edges... Darryl Ralph's kit knives also take a hair popping edge. I've made up several as gifts and nearly everyone I've given them to has nicked themselves within the first couple of days they had them. :D

All my knives get hair popping scary sharp. I dont let them leave the shop unless they can filet the ink off a sheet of newsprint without cutting through. Even BIG 15" oal knives are sent that sharp. These three rolls were cut in a single chop.....

Well I cant use a stone very well so right now Im going to save what used to be my ciggy money and Im going to get an apex pro I think. then I hope to be scary sharp.

A2 WOO, One awesomely sharp knife and will hold an edge fairly well. I had a Spec Bump in CPM154 that was scary sharp also. Kershaw Storm II w/ Sandvic steel very sharp!

Marbles Fieldcraft. It's scary, how sharp this knife gets. Gotta' love those convex grinds.

spyderco ronin, followed by yojimbo, that straight edge is a snap to get scary sharp.

cheers,
Dave

I have a bunch of knives that have cost be quite a lot of money, but, the knife that gets the sharpest and stays that way is a little old red handled cheapee....the Frosts of Sweden Moro. this little sucker has cut up so many boxes that I can't remember how many. Even though the blade has never NEEDED sharpening I usually just give it a quick buff with a white wool felt wheel and green compound.
It zips through cardboard and shaves after using.

Ciao

I can get all my knives scary sharp. Don't notice a difference beyond the point where the edge catches your fingerprints. Some blades may take more finesse or working the angles differently say like between a flat grind and convex but the sharpness remains consistently scary.

My Joel Chamblin LDC-1 takes the scariest edge I've ever put on a knife. It's a chisel grind with a zero bevel. I guess that and the heat treat and the grain of the steel(ats-34) it just slices through what ever with ease. I mean, wow! My friends are afraid to hold it. lol

I bet I could shave the electrons off an atom with this baby. Or perform brain surgery from 10 feet away. ( I don't know what that means):D

Anyway I always like pic's (thank you tic tock) so here it is.

I have had interesting experiences as far as sharpness goes.
I can get my Buck 110 and 560 (same blade) very sharp.
These two probably had the second best factory edges I've seen, though.
The best edge I've seen on a NIB knife was the Bark River Gameskeeper I won.
I cannot get my carbon Opinel very sharp, no matter what I do.
Most of my benchmades came with bad edges, but after reprofiling,
they are all wonderfully sharp.

Yay, posted from Lynx! I'm such a geek.

What's a zero bevel? the fact that there's only one flat between the cutting edge and the flat?
