Which of your slippies gets the most use?

By far Stockman for actual work (user, caulking, trimming wire, stripping casings, all that stuff.) Next would be peanut for dress carry.

How do you like that wharncliffe trapper? I have been looking at on in red bone.

I have the red bone and sunset orange by Case which I find myself edcing more than my others including peanuts, a Case TB Sowbelly, sodbuster jr, canoe, medium jack etc, etc, etc, etc...The wharncliffe blade is so much more useful then the spey blade as seen on most trappers. It is a TB inspired design. I am looking forward to the TB stag sway back jack with a wharncliffe blade offered by case in June 2008.

I planning on buying the sway back jack as well. I carry my TB Sowbelly and TB Saddlehorn a lot. We have a hardware store around the corner that has all of the Case wharncliffe trappers in all sizes and colors except for the medium red bone which is the one I want so I'm still looking. Thanks for the info.

up until the other day i carried my opinel #10 and the shrade old timer minuteman penknife.

my opinel got all kinds of work, alot of bread slicing and butter spreading, cutting boxes, cutting fruit, wood whittling and all kinds of other cutting tasks.

the penknife got the small tasks, i mostly used it for whittling.

but the other day i got a western whittler in a trade with coffeecup here on the forums and so far i love it. it has been riding solo in my pocket since i sharpened it up. its great, and has already deanimated some cantelopes, whittled the start of a wood chain, broken down cardboard for recycle, and cut several peices of cord. oh and it just picked a splinter.

i just may have found the perfect pattern for me, in which case it will be getting plenty more use in the future.

Go to caseknife outlet.com and scroll down to the 2007 case wharncliffe trapper collection. There are some tested red mini (medium) trappers available. I don't have a red bone but a tested red.

Thanks. I'll check that out.

Stockmans, the brand may differ day to day, but always a Stockman.

Definitely my Böker stockman...

I've got a rotation going on, so it's a little hard to say. 1 that has seen a whole lot of pocket time lately is an old Kutmaster mid stockman with jigged bone handles. The problem with having the rotation and then a knife that floats your boat is that you end up carry both, heh(or at least I do). Currently a big liner lock in my back pocket, the Kutmaster in my left front, and the forum Canittler in my right. Oh, and a Leatherman on my hip as well, but I don't carry that for the blades.

Case med.stockman. CV steel, burnt amber stag scales. Ithink the CV takes a better edge and holds it longer, but you do have to maintain it, or it will rust in wour pocket. I recently sent it back to case to repair a loose blade, and they had it back to me in 10 days from when I took it to the post office. I didn't like the mirror polish on the blades when I bought it, so I carefully sanded them down to a great hand-rubbed finish. To my surprise, when I got it back, the people at Case did an excellent job of fully restoring the mirror finish to the blades (thus, effectively dulling the razor sharp edges I had on all 3 blades). Thats ok though, hats off to the folks at Case.

All of them! I rotate every three to four days in order. Open the knife drawer(wood toolchest), drop my current knife in the empty spot and grab the one directly to the right. Some knives get called in for special duty, but I usually just use whatever happens to be in my pocket. Probably a bit anal for some, but it works for me.

You're lucky, Augustus. I was checking to make sure you hadn't snuck your daughter's barlow in there! ;) :p

Elliott,
The Barlow is safely locked in the top drawer of the same toolbox. My daughter gets to use it with my supervision. It never sees time in my pocket. Pretty slick of you taking stock of my stash! Bet you have eyes on the back of your head like my wife. :p

Thanks again!

PS e-mail me your address. That penny for a knife tradition on an earlier post seems like a nice folksy idea.

Augustus,

Twenty some odd years as a federal criminal investigator die hard. :p
