I can accept that :P

Anybody want a sandwich?

What number is that beast? A 15 or larger? Saw something about a 15, did not see anything that big. That's like a Cold Steel Espada XL. WOW!

I believe it's a No. 13.

Well that must be one helluva jump from a 12. The 12 has a 4.75 blade and a 6 5/16 closed. That one looks to be at least 8 inches on the handle alone. WOW! Too big for me for pocket carry. Could see having one just for the wow factor though. ;-)

Thanks for all the help everyone, my next question is what are some mods that make it more comfortable and give you a better grip

In my opinion the stock grip on my 9 is the perfect handle shape.

Nice palm swell, good control on the pivot collar having removed the vibralock, nice curl on the tail that gives good grip and control to my pinky.

I would never dream of changing it.

There are plenty of threads with modded Opis in them around here, get your hands on One before you decide that you need to cut it up.

I have the #10
it seems to fit average sized hands OK

average sizedhands for a 6'5" kinda guy anyway ..

Mines seen a fair bit of use over the years tho , not everyone you handle will open / close as that

Opinel’s arrived, a #8 olive w inox, and a #6 olive w inox. Also got a #8 carbon for my son.
The olive handles are very nice, they came pretty sharp & a little stropping got them really sharp. The handles have a nice feel to them in my hand & I think they will be easy to work with. The lock up feels pretty solid with the ring, more so than I thought it would.
I’m going to EDC the 6 or 8 for a month & see how it goes. I’ll probably carry the 6 mostly, since it is close to the size of the mini grip I have been using as my EDC.(pix a little deceiving in that respect) I think the thing I will miss most about the grip is the easy one hand opening. I’ve been carrying a mini grip as my EDC for about a 1.5 years now so I have gotten quite use to the one hand opening. Mostly carried a SAK tinker or a queen sodbuster as my EDC prior to the mini grip so maybe it will be no big deal going back to 2 hand opening & closing, we’ll see.

1 month later, the opinel & I have really hit it off. The 6 or 8 have been in my pocket every day. If I’m in the office or doing air travel the 6 is in my pocket or checked bag. Any other time the 8 is in my pocket. It has done everything asked of it, strip wire, cut wire ties, scrape some paint with the top edge of the blade, cut caulk tube, cut up boxes, open mail, pop the top off a beer bottle, whittle some wood, slice potato’s , onions, apples & many other food prep chores.
The problem is now I’ve gone a little opinel crazy. I have 8 of them now & a pair of carbon pairing knives. I’ve gifted the 6 olive wood stainless blade & an 8 carbon. The recipients were thrilled to have them, especially after I sent them a link to the opinel history.
It has not only found a place in the rotation but kind of taken over the rotation. I’ve become pretty attached to the 8 olive wood.
I would suggest to anyone, pick up a 6 & 8. Give em a try, but be careful, they are kind of addicting.

I like #12s

Thats the beauty of it; the Opis are so cheap and easy to mod, that you can experiment with fashioning one/several to any which shape you want.

I have several and they are all set up as box cutters. They work fine for that task.

Glad to heat that you love the Opinel as much as I do :)

My girlfriend moved out on her own this year, one of the things I out on her must have list was an Opinel 9 for food chores.

She's been using it and has fallen I. Love with it as well, calls it "Mr. Slicey"

Great thread with some excellent information. I placed an order for a No 8 carbon last night ;)
