Is the Chokwe really that ergonomic? Its looks kind of blocky, and judging from its looks, wouldn't seem very ergonomic.

It really is. I understand why it would look boxy. But you have to remember, it has a long handle. My xl hands don't nearly take up the whole handle. Here is a little throw away tracing showing why the boxed end doesn't come into play:

You can also see that if the lines were extended as curves the Chokwe's handle would look like a very familiar fixed blade design. With such smooth lines you can just grip it and not worry about it, any grip works. I'm really glad I picked this knife up. It's a true winner.
