One is safe to eat, one causes severe gastro poisoning.

I do know that not a single insect, rodent, animal, or bird ever takes so much as a nibble out of these ones here.
They only grow around my Spruce trees, only in October, only in a 8 foot circle around the trees. Seem to grow more prolific where ever a fertilizer pine tree spike was pounded in from years past.

Here is a picture of it this morning I took for you, it’s going to grow wider still and start to split, but not taller. It’s now 5 days old.
