I wondered about the pins and had actually started a thread about them because I had always stayed away from a pinned or riveted knife. I subsequently read a post by the head of spyderco saying exactly what you mentioned that it is a definite design choice and forum members have commented on how sturdy they are. As far as a lock back, I usually stick with liner or frame locks, but this knife came so highly recommended, I had to pull the triggerThe Caly 3.5 is among my favorite Spydercos. I'm carrying one right now (CF/ZDP). Here's why: It has blade length of the Para 2 in grips the size of a Delica. Possibly the best ergos of any Spyderco. It's very lightweight and the deep carry wire clip makes it very discrete to carry. The pinned construction and back lock are possible negatives, but that's what keeps it so compact.
This one. Throwback photo to before it was stained, scratched, dinged, or earned its spot in Valhalla.
