Which Spyderco(s) are you least interested in.

The flippers (domino and southard). Tried both of them but the idea just seemed silly on a spyderco. On top of that I think the Southard has the worst ergonomics of any spyderco I've ever held. At least the domino is comfortable in the hand.

I'll probably go counter-popularity here, but:

  1. Military - had one and it is the only knife that I have ever traded or sold. Never used it. Just didn't like the way the lock impacted on my index finger.
  2. Like Surfingringo, not fond of the Domino or Southard. Don't like "one-sided" knives
  3. Any fixed blade
  4. Lava
  5. Squeek
  6. Slipit

That is about it. :)

Edit: BTW, cool thread. I'm enjoying reading the replies and reasons.

I'm sure it's well built and maybe I'd sing a different tune if I held one. But the Battlestation makes zero sense to me and I'm not a fan of the looks. The metal on the end of the handle looks narrower than the G10 and possibly the ultimate hot spot. The blade is less than 3" with the choil included and less than 2.5" cutting edge. How stout does this need to be? Spanto tip on a sub-Sage size knife seems like a solution in search of a problem. Between the saber grind and thick blade on a tiny knife, I'm not interested.

Currently I am not interested in any knives designed for defenseless, salts, slippies. Small, thick knives like Techno. Much less interested in knives without finger choil or only tip down carry option. Almost no interest in carbon steel, but started to think about CPM M4. Much more interested in knives made in Golden, less made in Japan, less made in Taiwan, but may be will buy Hungarian. Absolutely no interest in knives made in PRC.

Do it, get the Hungarian. It's a really nice piece of equipment for sure.

I still haven't convinced myself to drop the cash for anything made in Taiwan.

Same here.

And even if the TUFF was made in Golden, Co I still couldn't own one. I bought one and sold it on the exchange within an hour of receiving it.

Theres a few that I dont like the looks of like the jot singh khalsa, lava, balance and some other really strange ones. I cant dislike spydercos for any reason other than aesthetics though, because if theres one thing I have learned its that most every spyderco has a specific, well thought out, refined and functional design and thats why theyre my favorite.

Domino-

Just not a fan of the overall look and design.

Delica-

Small and IMO ugly

LionSpy-

It's ugly compared to the SR1, all it really adds is the ugly hump to make room for the opening hole.

I'm not bashing Spyderco of course, I love dozens of their other designs :)

Certainly points out the different strokes ideology.

Dragonfly 2- small hands but index finger is almost touching the blade edge. A little too close for comfort. Also, you cannot adjust pivot. Like the size, though. I bought a Chicago.

To throw some positive in here - up until last week the Air was on my "Meh" list. Now I really, really want one.

I want something more traditional looking, but I hate the bone handles on most traditionals. I'm also not a fan of muli-blade folders (with the exception of SAKs). I think the Air (or maybe a Moki) might be what I need.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it so I'll toss the Warrior into the mix. It's cool and it's one bad mofo but what the hell am I going to do with it?

Pretty much sums it up perfectly! I didn't even consider fixed blades. I am sure some more might be added to the list.

Reading responses has made me appreciate how lucky I am that the little dragonfly fits me like a glove. Definitely one of my favorites but I can see how if it doesn't fit your hand it would be pretty uncomfortable.

I never thought about how lefties probably don't care for liner or frame locks, but it makes perfect sense. It's good that the new hotness (Manix in S110V) goes equally well right or left.

Two immediately come to mind.

Battlestation: Aesthetically, the handle does not do it for me… in fact, it totally vibes of Quartermaster looks (not something I'm after, for multiple reasons).
Wondering if the protruding liners near the lanyard hole are a hot spot? The sub-hilt is not my concern. I think the also Dialex-designed Junior has a spectacularly mapped out handle that melts in your hand while achieving forward slippage protection-- which is why I am a little perplexed with the Battlestation.
For me, these are honestly weird thoughts to be having because Spyderco is kind of synonymous with feel when in hand despite aesthetics or initial opinions of them. Of course, I have yet to handle this particular knife, so...

Double Bevel: All due respect to Mr. Terzuola, but I just don't dig it. His Slipit is definitely one of my favorites though… totally niche :D

So far, the newer offerings just haven't appealed to me (battlestation etc). Besides those, ones I've tried and have not liked:

Nilakka--S30V Scandi grind did not hold an edge.
Southard--Had it for three days, just did not like anything about it. Felt weird in hand, flipper action left much to be desired. And I generally (there are exceptions) don't care for metal handled knives or frame locks.
Native 5--Its ok, but its just another heavy midlock knife I never see myself using, even though mine is the Forum with S110V. I prefer my small knives to be a bit lighter weight. Its currently for sale on the exchange.
Szabo--Everything about it just felt wrong. Detent was too strong, compression lock was really stiff, and ergos were just off. And I have XL hands.
Military--Didn't do anything for me. It was average in every sense of the word.
Endura Wave--Didn't feel right, wave is just annoying when I don't want to use it.

Ones I haven't owned/handled that I have no interest in:

Tusk--nothing about it appeals to me
Techno--not a fan of metal handles or overbuilt small knives.
Battlestation
Anything smaller than the dragonfly--too small for my hands
Navaja--cool design, clicking pivot ruins it for me
Tuff--I don't see myself ever needing that much knife. Plus its ugly.
Any of the slipjoints/non lockers
Most of their fixed blades (love my Schempp Rock though)
Lionspy--Had a LionSteel SR-1, didn't like it, don't see any reason to try this.

Paramilitary: had one, didn't like it. It didn't fit my hand well and felt cheap.
Gayle Bradley: Made in Taiwan caused me to hold out on buying one until I handled one in the store. Then my reason became the fact that I dislike almost everything about it.. Didn't fit my hand, I don't like CF handles. A super tough steel used in a hollow ground gentleman's folder didn't make sense to me.
