Which Spydie?

Ok, could use some suggestions.

I am not trying to decide between the Para Mlitary 2 and the Yojumbo. That was actually a simple decision - I am getting BOTH (only solution that makes sense). I check the Spyderco website 5 or 6 times per day, waiting for them to be in stock. The satin blade Yojumbo was in stock for ONE day. I almost pulled the trigger but am wating for the DLC.

The decision I am struggling with is on the 3rd knife :D

My daughter has been using her Izula, responsibly, which was the prerequisite for a folder. Well, that and some pants with pockets. What is up with the fake pockets on little girl's jeans?!?!

I am looking for - Blade lenght of 3" or less, compression lock, and pink scales. I wouldn't be opposed to buying the right knife, with the wrong scales, and buying custom scales for it. Unfortunately, it seems to be tricky finding some basic pink G10 or Micarta scales..... even for a PM3 (which was one idea).

Oh, also wouldn't be too opposed to the ball bearing lock. It just has to be fidget friendly and not require crossing the path of the blade to unlock.

I have considered the Hogue Deka (yea, a hair over the 3" mark) but would like to stick to Spyderco. Plus, while the Red Lava Gmascus is close, it ain't pink.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

For me, an easy decision - neither, I don't like holes in my blades.
Rich

I have never been a Spyderco guy. I was going to gunshows, in the 80's, I remember when they first gained traction with the "Police" and "Military". I had nothing against them, but was a Benchmade guy. I bought a little tiny Spyderco keychain as a gift for my Dad..... and later inherited it from him. Years later, my brother in law bought me another little keychain Spydie. So..... i have one from the 80's and one from about 10 years ago. Other than that, not ONE Spyderco. Just never been my thing. They seemed flat and had funny blades that look like a bird's head. So, I totally get ya, man! I'm wanting 'em now tho!

You may take a look at the Sage series. One of them runs a compression lock and there is a cheaper light weight version that runs FRN scales.

The correct answer is the Spyderco Dragonfly. Let her pick the color and you both will be golden.

Or Lil Native if the compression lock is an absolute must.

I looked at the at the Dragonfly but thought it was either a slippy or a back lock. Yea, the compression lock is (almost) a must.... it could also be an "Axis" style lock. remember - I need two things: (1) fidget factor. The more fun it is to play with, the more it because a part of your arm (2) No locking method that involves putting a finger in the blade path.

But I will look into that Lil Native. She already did pick the color. Heck, I showed her the "Red Lava" Gmascus and that didn't quite cut it. She is dead set on pink.

While she is taught that a knife is a TOOL that helps us perform utility tasks, I have also been teaching her the basic angles (in FMA) and running some flow drills with her. So she does also consider the knife an anti kidnapping tool and I want something that would have at least some value in that department.

First off, please consider carefully teaching your little girl to pull a knife on an attempted abductor. There are lots of better options for self-defense

Have you considered the Benchmade Mini Grip? Great fidget factor and readily available in pink.

If money is no object, you could configure one at the Benchmade Custom Shop.

WOW, that mini grip is beautiful. She would love it. I might have to make an exception to the No (more) Benchmades rule. I am diggin that Sage, though, just gotta find out if I can get some pink scales for it.

As for her training, we cover a lot - moral and legal implications, disparity of strength between adults and children, retention, etc. She is not a typical kid and understands that situational awareness and avoidance are her two greatest SD tools.

Everyone has their reasons and their preferences.....

I'll never buy a benchmade knife ever again. I'll never recommended them, and if given one I'll trash it immediately. I'll not be seen with it. Period.

I do not care what they do, how good their stuff is, or how cheap they are. Never, ever, ever. They do not exist to me. That company erased itself from my life and nothing they do can or will change that.

Or you could pass it on to someone who might appreciate it.

That could be seen as supporting them. I will not do that. What they did to bring me to this point is completely and totally unforgivable.

I have no more BMs to "pass on" anyhow. They all had a visit with my mig welder.

What did BM do you you?

You really showed them lol

Shrug. You can have your opinion, I'll have mine.

They were welded closed for the safety of the trash collection people/dump customers.

Their actions made it impossible for me to associate with them in any way. Period. You don't like that I disappeared them from my life, so you're shitting on me. Do not care.
