Which Stretch?

Superblue, then ZDP, then VG-10. Have owned all three. Hate the FRN, though.

...... Hate the FRN, though.

If you use the knife a lot, you realize the genius of the FRN grips. They are smooth so they don't snag anything in your pocket, yet they have arrays of polarized nubs that provide non-slip grip even when wet. They are very lightweight and practically indestructible. While they are not as classy as the CF or fancy glass slabs (Damascus version), I find I grab my FRN Stretch at least 90% of the time when I leave for work--and use it dozens of times each day.

The more FRN handled knives I get, the more I dig it.
There are some models where the design calls for "lightweight" to be a higher priority than "toughness" and I think the FRN is a very good compromise.

Completely agree with above; the more experience you have with FRN the more it grows on you through use.

That said, I will also be picking up the upcoming G10 version.
Love my super blue so much I'm about to pick up another just to hoard! The Stretch SB still seem easier to find than the Delica.

I have a Manix 2 in both FRN (S110V) and G-10 (CRUWEAR) and I like them both equally, because to me, they are 2 different knives.
But yeah, some guys hate the FRN, which is a valid way to feel about it I suppose, I just don't agree.

I went for the Superblue mainly because they won't be available much longer. Still waiting for it to arrive. If I love it, I got one while they were reasonably priced. if I don't love it, I'll be able to turn it around without a loss. The ZDP/FRN version will likely be around at least another year since it's in the 2015 catalog.

Oh, you'll love it and then be on the search for more to hoard, lol. Basically just explained my own situation.
Here's my user Stretchy.

Ordered some of those Casey Lynch deep carry ti clips from here, and one of the long ones will probably end up on this folder. I like the black Spyderco clips, but hate how they always end up looking so abused and worn from pocket carry.

SpeedHoles, I couldn't help noticing the bicycle tools. I spend a lot of time on a bicycle, one of the reasons the Stretch lightweight appeals to me.

Yeah, good eye! I'm an avid cyclist and mechanic also. I enjoy pretty much anything with wheels or that I can work on with my hands. Crank it up!

You are going to love it. The handle and blade shape are genius. It is a slicing machine but pretty dang tough too.

After I got it I understood it's popularity and wondered why I waited so long.

I have had three zdp edged knives, traded them all out. Under some circumstances, you have to really work at resharpening these things. Sometimes you are sharpening the normal amount of time as you would S35v or CPM 154 and one isn't sure if anything is happening if at all to the zdp blade.

It arrived today. I lucked out with this one: Nice and even laminations, solid lock up, good centering, and very sharp. It's an odd looking knife, even for a Spyderco, but I can tell this one is going to grow on me.

Good to hear, it sounds like a cherry.

...found it interesting that you mention it is "odd looking", though. Not that it would bother me either way, but I'd consider this to be a very standard look/design folder. It's not a jot singh khalsa or dodo, just a straight forward backlock folder with a finger choil.

I guess I'm just used to the more typical Spyderco blade shape, as in the Endura, Delica, Para 2 etc. The Stretch seems kind of unique. Whatever, it's already won me over. Today I broke down about a dozen cardboard boxes with it, cut a bunch of plastic strapping, then used it to slice the foil off a bottle of wine and do a little paring work in the kitchen. It had lost a little of that original sharpness, but after a few strokes on the strop, it came back even sharper than new. It's the best slicer I've tried yet--I think the narrow blade may contribute to that.

ZDP 189 is incredible, but I already had a knife in that steel. I'm finding the Superblue really a pleasure to use.

I'm glad you like it. They are slicing monsters, few can compete. I might sale mine though, I never carry it much for the size.
